What all do i need to buy? So far there is the Premium Console Package with that extra 20GB memory thing, and a controller, and i will get an extra controller. $400, free shipping no sales tax.

This is a gift, and i am never going to even see the thing. So please advise on how i can guarantee the recipient doesn't have to go searching on Christmas Day for some stupid accessory piece.

Is the premium console package and two controllers all they need to plug it in and play? (The recipient can just go get games on their own.)

Thank you so much for advice

the premium system comes with everything they will need. other then the second controler, no other periferals are nesscessary.

There is no pack in game, so if you will have to buy a game seperately.

You'd probably get more advice from the Video Game Board.

yeah, pretty much everything is included just get some games (if you choose) the controlers and everythign are good to go.

i hope this doesn't get moved over there, because i was rather looking for layman's advice, not chastisement by techno-savvy people.

i just want to know whether i need to buy anything extra for the system itself to operate. i am trying to avoid speaking to salespeople in the store. i just want to call the store and have them hold everything i purchase for pickup.

This is probably the most difficulty i have ever had in getting a question answered here. Which astounds me because i know most people here have heard of this device and know way more about it than i do.

Games are up to the recipient.

I promise you, there will be no chastisement at all. I study video game design and I will not chastise anyone over anything.

Anyway, the premium will do just fine.
Here is a page that you can go on. It shows just exactly what you get as well as the difference in the two bundles.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/xbox360/xbox360customize.htm

Feel free to come by the video game board. We can talk about Mrs Pac-Man or even Frogger.

Anyway, that page should help.

As long as your person's TV is new enough to have RCA plugs (red, white and yellow), which most TVs made in the last 10 - 15 years have, they won't need anything extra to play straight out of the box other than a game..

I have the system, the controllers use batteries, it comes with some, but a charge and play kit would be good, not needed though. If the person plays online they may need a wireless internet adapter for the system, those run about $40. I honestly can't think of anything that that will keep the recepient from being able to play out of the box. The only thing I really recommend would be the charge and play kit, $15-20. Good Luck.

Gami,

Thank you in advance for this wonderful gift. I really wanted a PS3, but I'm sure I'll love this. You are as kind as you are hot, and that's pretty kind.

xoxo,
Cov

PS - I have something white stuck on my fingers. I just showered at the gym a few mintues ago, so it JUST got there. I just don't know what it could be.

the wireless adaptor is great, but only if they have a wireless home network, retail they are $100, not $40.

Thank you for that Jeff; FWIW i don't think they have internet.

Great idea on the controller charger - they don't need that to operate it but it would likely be a nice touch.

yeah gam, i think the play and charge and extra battery packs would be nice if not almost essential, it would be a pain to have to keep buying batteries instead recharge save planet and whomever some $$$$

Batteries:

1) You are going to need an Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit, which retails for 19.99 - http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802125

NOTE: You may want to just go ahead and get 2 of those, since you're getting them an extra controller.

2) If you only get one Play and Charge Kit, you can go ahead and get a second rechargeable battery (as the P&C Kit comes with one,) which retails for 11.99 - http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802126

3) A third option is two rechargeable batteries and an Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit, that allows you to put both batteries on a docking station-like charger, and that retails for 29.99 - http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802270

------------------------------

Memory Cards:

You may want to consider a memory card if this person knows others with a 360, and/or he goes to other locations to play games. I have no use for a memory card, but I guess some do. They retail for 39.99 - http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802123

------------------------------

Xbox Live:

1) Okay, in order to play on Xbox Live, they'll need a broadband connection of some kind. They will probably also have to have a router as well, unless they're prepared to cut off computer use when they play on Xbox Live. Now, assuming they have that in place, you might want to get them the Xbox Live 12 Month Gold Card, which retails for 49.99 - http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=790006

NOTE: The premium Xbox 360 comes with the headsets, the ethernet cable and hard drive they'll need to play on Live.

2) If they have a broadband connection and a router but the Xbox 360 isn't close enough to use the ethernet cable provided, the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter might be a good idea. It retails for 99.99 - http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802124

NOTE: There are other wireless network adapters out on the market, and for much cheaper, but from what I myself have heard, they tend to lag a lot more than the official Xbox one. Now, that's just what I've heard, not a fact. :ezbill:
