Glazer: it'll be Rob barring something crazy (1 Viewer)

Very positive for GW as well though. In another time, news of Ryan would be rather split. I think it is more negative given his persona and the troubles we encountered with GW who is very similar in his ego and antics.

This.

Another thing I dont like about Rob Ryan is his bulliten board material he always put out there. Before any big game he is running his mouth to the media "We are going to beat the Giants, we are going to beat Eli, or whatever whatever." Always running his mouth but not showing up when the time comes.

He has a big mouth just like Rex.

Him running his mouth pregame is bad, but following that up with a performance that allows 30+ points is much worse. Why are we even considering this clown?

We have to look at our FO why is RR such an important coach right now?

Money! The Saints don't have much, therefore they have to go with what they have on D, complete revamp of the Saints D, which is needed, is out of the question.

Enter Rob Ryan. The Saints were just as bad under G Gibbs, and GW made a change of culture of that D. The D responded in kind....and the Saints won their first SB!

Then Spags came along, and he screwed everything up. The Saints D fell back to being the worst ever. Naturally Spags got canned for that.

So in retrospect, the Saints FO realized their mistakes in hiring Spags, and they want to go back to the same type of D which made that D not a great D, but an OK D.....again, there is no money in a complete revamp of the D, and Ryan is almost a carbon copy of GW scheme wise. GW's biggest mistake was the excessive blitzing, but RR might not be so eager to follow GW's doing so closely, knowing that it didn't work as expected.

Right now it sure looks that RR is the front runner. Of course anything can happen, but right now Rob Ryan fits in better in this defense than any other wannabee DC.

Because media machine bravado reporting is only a tiny part of the actual job of being a defensive coordinator?

I remember reading in other discussions that the Saints need an attacking 3-4 front, not a read and react one. So, does RR fit or not this scheme?

Rob's defense was pretty solid at Dallas... he just had a ton of injuries to his linebacking corps and had to "make do" against some pretty good offenses last year. Jerry Jones tried to turn him into the scapegoat, when in reality his defensive scheme wasn't that bad at all. They didn't generate a lot of turnovers, but they were definitely not the reason the Cowboys didn't make the playoffs...
