Going to Chicago (1 Viewer)

Living here I take everything for granted until I travel somewhere else. I love this place.

For our vacation this year my wife and I decided to play tourists in Chicago and do everything that we neglect doing.

I like the art/music district and recommend at least walking through the Art Institute.

Most people prefer Gino's East. I prefer Uno's but they're both good.

Saturday and Sunday won't be too bad as far as weather. The last few days, and for the next few, high temps have been 23 and under and lows have been in the single digits. About 13 and snowing right now. Tomorrows high is predicted to be 9. It is supposed to be 24 on Friday 33 on Saturday and 34 on Sunday. You should be able to handle that but the wind may get you.

Watch out for the sales tax. It catches people by surprise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States

There is no smoking anywhere indoors, at parks, beaches, sports stadiums or within 15 feet of doors or open windows. Be careful. I think the fine for lighting up in a public place is $250 and lighting up at a park or a beach is $500.

For things to do this weekend... http://events.newcitychicago.com/calendar/browse.asp?timebase=1

Pick a fight with some Bears fans to show your girlfriend how tough you are.

Gino's East has pretty good pizza, but i would have to say Giordano's has the best pizza in Chicago.

We order from them a lot but that's because they are about 3 minutes from the house. They're the most consistent. I don't care for the giant sausage patty on Gino's East's pizza but other folks love it.

thanks,

i think we'll definitely hit the hancock building.

will also hit the shops and stuff on magnificent mile.

we'll be seeing the play wicked on saturday night

i'm looking forward to it. total surprise, my girlfriend has no idea that we're going

Museum of Science and Industry. http://www.msichicago.org/ The place will pretty much rock your face, if you're even slightly into that kind of stuff.

Carson's Ribs on N. Wells between the O's is awesome

Carnivale (which is visible from I-94, but I don't know where you're staying which would affect me telling you how to get there) has good food and looks awesome both outside and in

Nightlife on North Avenue between Halsted and the river is cool, there's something for pretty much everybody. Make a left at the Old Navy, circle around for a spell til you find something you might like to do, then park... which can be hard at times.

Eat a Maxwell Street Polish.

I could tell you all sorts of stuff to do

If you want authentic Chicago Blues, you can't go wrong with Kingston Mines or Blue Chicago. If you can get your conceirge to finagle (sp?) Buddy Guy tix at his place, seeing him there is like seeing him nowhere else. At HOB in NOLA last year he was great.

Ed Debevic's is real fun with good casual food/atmosphere. The waitstaff is very entertaining.

Lastly, if your down on Division St. late night partying and want to get some really good late night eats, stop into Five Faces and order a Gyro with cheese fries. You'll thank me in the morning.

take a coat. Take a few coats. My cousin has been up there for two weeks training and called today saying it was miserable cold up there.

Primos Pizza is a must. Be prepared for a wait but my friend's there tell me it is the best Chicago pizza. I loved it, but I was drunk. :dunno: Dress warm. We just got back and it's cold. Really cold.
