gonna be a fun season (1 Viewer)

Well, they are very young and weren’t trying to contend for a title this year, so as long as they gel some and improve, the season won’t be a complete loss. Gentry needs to go too. This kind of defense is always played by Gentry coached teams, it’s almost like his philosophy.
At this point, Gentry needs to be fired just for show. Make it look like the team, organizationally, is doing anything possible to get better.

Getting very hard to see this franchise here in ten years. The beginning of this season was critical. Didn’t even need to have a winning record — 39-43, say, would show promise. As constituted, this Pelicans team will lose 65-70 games.

Well today they are pretty healthy, minus Zion......and playing horribly. Already given up over a hundred points to the Nets in only 3 quarters. This team plays no D at all. It’s sad quite honestly. It’s not like teams are playing great offensively, we just give up layup after layup in between uncontested 3 pointers. Before today, they are averaging 118 points a game and are 1-5. Pathetic!

They aren't playing no D. Just really bad D. They are messing up the switches and not covering the lane. It's bad, but fixable.

Way too early for that. This team hasn't played 10 games yet. We knew coming in there would be growing pains. I don't like the losing, but they've been reasonable close in most of the losses (GSW withstanding). No reason to panic yet.

This town is not going to wait three years for a Philly-style "The Process" to play out. Gayle Benson had better have a stomach for a 1/3-filled arena if this current brand of basketball is going to be a prolonged experience.

I think there is a sweet spot between 7 games and 3 years that is reasonable.

Dude, Zion hasn't even played yet! These guys are young and talented, but they're not used to playing together yet, and their star hasn't set foot on the court... Gonna take a little time!

Didn't we bring in a specialist for defense?

I expected it would be rough on defense. You got young kids who have never played together for the most part and the two vets (Jrue and Favors) have not been healthy.

Defense is a different animal...it takes time to build chemistry and for them to come together as a cohesive unit

I am not even bothered by the game losses at this point. I understand that it will take a while for a young team tossed together like this to gel and develop. Plus no Zion as well as other injuries to vets.

I've enjoyed watching the games. The Pels have been in just about every one of them. I think that the future looks pretty bright. Maybe not so much this season, but next, and the next, and the next... :9:

There are absolutely some positives that can be taken out of a 1-5 start that should get everyone excited about the Pels future. Brandon Ingram has shown to be a star with potential to be a superstar. Lonzo Ball has shown to be better offensively than expected by most. Zion fixed a problem that could have been a long time lingering issue. Jaxson Hayes is getting important minutes that he wasn't expected to get. Jahlil Okafor can be a nice piece for the future, not just an end of the bench guy. And like you said, almost every game we were in the hunt for, despite being young, new to a team and injured.. All of the negatives have been on the veterans so far mostly with JJ Reddick, Derek Favors and Jrue Holiday all under performing. But those guys have proven themselves already, so I expect that to change soon. The only other negatives are the constant injuries and NAW's play so far(still getting valuable PT and will greatly improve). Overall, I may be even more excited about our future than before the season started, I'm just less excited about our present as I thought that we could be a low seed playoff team.

yeah I am starting to be of the opinion that they should just let Hayes play the season and have his growing pains. He is pretty damned raw right now but the talent and ability is definitely there

Hayes should be in the G League where he can take a redshirt year, learn the basics of basketball for a year. I don't mean that as a slight, he's just completely raw. He also could use the time to build out his frame and add some weight. Sending him out to get roasted in the NBA every night and learning to play under Gentry is probably counterproductive for his long term development.

The season is pretty much toast before we even get to see Zion, which sucks, but hopefully Griffin can keep the long term plan intact.
