So the CEO of Goya foods thanked President Trump for the good he did for Latin American businesses in the US, and now folks are boycotting Goya foods because “ how could the CEO of a Latin company praise a man who continues to lock Latin children in cages?!?!”

I get it, but this hits different for me as I am Cuban and Goya is a staple in EVERY Cuban home.

I don’t agree with the man, and I don’t agree with people being locked in cages (especially the niños), but at the same time people work at Goya foods, and I would rather not go through the process of recreating the foods that they already prepare, so I won’t be boycotting them. Get rid of the CEO, sure, but it’s not like they are locking the kids in the cages, or worse, having child slave labor create their product (hello smart phones and PCs).

But how do you judge the success of a boycott when the bulk of the consumers will continue to buy their products? You think abuela cares what’s going on on the Twitters? Do you think the Cuban Republican block is going to quit buying something because a CEO said something in support of a Republican President? Heck, once boycotters find out Goya’s competition also donates to the GOP, they will either be left with bland food, or find that making their own Goya products ain’t worth the fight.

I don’t know, these are just my thoughts on the Goyaway boycott.

What a strange sweeping generalization.

And I'm not going to get into the politics of it, but here is a twitter thread of Goya alternatives, if anyone is interested.

I make my own adobo seasoning with similar ingredients as in that thread. I’ve found most Goya seasonings contain MSG and I like to avoid that stuff.

Why? MSG occurs naturally in a lot of foods.

Had a reaction to it a long time ago at Red Palace on the Westbank. How do I know it was MSG? That’s what my doctor said. I’m sure in naturally occurring foods it may be safer for me. I just avoid it when added to products.

Sorry, it was a poor joke on my part, I have since deleted it as to no longer offend.
Badia donates to the GOP.

No one likes an arse kisser.

Your Cuban abuela may not care, but there's a whole bunch of abuelas from other nationalities, ya know? And there are more of those.

And your generalizations suck.

And an edit to add: real abuelas don't buy their spices from the international isle.

My apologies for offending anyone with my generalization. It was a poor joke. I have since deleted it.

I believe we will see just how many abuelas care when Goya rolls out their next financials. If it goes like the boycotts of Amazon, Apple,Chick-FIL-A,etc. the company will probably turn improved sales.

Penn and Teller had a show on Showtime called Bullshirt. In one episode, they proved that MSG is harmless. I don't remember the exact numbers so let's say 20 people. They gathered 10 that said MSG gives them headaches and 10 that didn't have that problem. They gave them all a free meal. They broke them up into 2 groups. They told one group that the food they are going to eat has MSG and the other one doesn't. Well they lied, it was the opposite. So they put the people that didn't like MSG into the group that "doesn't" have MSG and the other group into the one that "does". What they found was that the ones that MSG gives headaches to didn't get a headache and the people that didn't have that issue before hand had gotten headaches. In other words, it's all in peoples heads.

It is possible to have a sensitivity to MSG, so you can react to it (just like anything, really). But MSG in general does get a bad rap.

I am not offended. Just pointing out the suckage :hihi:

Real abuelas don’t buy their spices from international isles because they go to Latin Markets and not Rouses.
