I picked Cher because I've always said she was hard working and then -- just when she was set to only be famous for her Bob Mackie outfits and a couple successful singles and her variety show with Sonny -- she set her sights on being a serious actress and so she almost -- but not quite -- has an EGOT.
Huh...
Hadn’t thought about that but she seemed to have the Liz Taylor happen to her
Icon to great actress to bigger icon to ‘we don’t know what to do with you so you’re going to become kind of joke but no one knows what the joke is’

I think she was PO'd because people thought Sonny was her Svengali and Sonny was happy for people to think that and nobody was ever going to take her seriously for her own talents. She got Robert Altman to put her on Broadway and then the film version and eventually she became Moonstruck. Now, she didn't change, she's still flamboyant but she saw what she wanted and went out and got it. Sonny can't take credit for that.

The one in 1994? Okay, just watched it. Looking at it through my feminist lenses .. and though I like Letterman, and I know she gets off on being rude .. Dave could be extremely sexist without realizing it.

I think she had a couple of them on there, that were hilarious. Unforgettable dialogue. She still has some punk rocker in her.

Music business ruins a lot of great artists. Have your heard the new Green Day album?!?! I think their new album is called, Barf City. lol. What kind of music is that?

So was Cher. If you ever catch that interview. Check it out on YouTube.

Cher lost me after that music video showed her back side. It just looked cheap and failed attempt to regain some dominance. I'm pretty sure her marriage with Bono was dysfunctional, but there was something special with the song, I got you babe. It was a couple you just wanted to stay together for good times sake or something.

I'm quite opinionated sometimes, I apologize if this comes off wrong for some people.

If this is gonna turn into a Madonna vs Olivia Newton John thread, then i dont even wanna live anymore... ONJ has more talent in her Australian left pinky finger than that hack Madonna could ever dream of having in the entirety of her botoxed body...... Madonna was the best marketer and self-promoter the world has ever seen, seriously no one can compare.. but ONJ’s angel voice ranks with, as DR said, the likes of Carpenter, Streisand, Ripperton and any other sublime female you can think of.
Amen. No pun intended. Karen carpenter has the best voice. But olivia comes in second. She is also more beautiful. I actually got to see her in concert. It was so good

I remember her saying one time that Sonny was, you know, a good father so I think she did have respect for him. But show business wise, she knew she was outgrowing him. That's pretty impossible for a show business marriage to survive.

Like I said, I have respect for her career and all (Moonstruck is one of my favorite movies) but I'm not really a fan of everything she's done.

No it isn't a chick flick. I enjoyed the movie as well. Sha na na had an important role in the movie as well. They were the opening act for the final day at Woodstock which was closed by Jimi Hendrix. The group was started by students from Columbia university. They weren't egg heads by any stretch of the imagination.
Wow. I did not know that. Remember songs like born to hand jive, and all the other great songs in grease by sh na na. God what a great movie.

If they had continued on with mamma, yes. Instead they went to the opera junk. I have always thought queen was one of the best bands of all time. But, they did get weird every now and then
Nobody brought this up yet?

What about Bono, ski accident? Tragic!

Today you learned something. The original lead singer of Sha Na Na was a man named Robert Leonard. He's considered by many to have the highest IQ ever among musicians.

You also mentioned Brian May from Queen. He's not that far behind. He has a masters degree in physics.
