I just got GH3 for my 360. I love it!! I would love to get the 80's version that came out earlier but was wondering, can I play the older versions of GH like 1 and 2 using the new wireless guitar that came with 3? In other words, is the GH3 guitar backwards compatible?

yes it is but you can only use it to play Guitar Hero 2. Guitar Hero 1 and the 80's didn't come out for 360.

i'l look on xbox live under game store and see if their are songs you want to download to play on the 360 version.
