Gulf Coast Claims Facility Sucks! (1 Viewer)

is it bp or is it the government? last I heard the government is in control of the fund and someone appointed by obama is overseeing it. bp has set aside 20 billion for the government to administer.

How did this get negrepped?

Diat, you're exactly correct. Ken Feinburg is the allocation manager appointed by Obama. He's the guy who ran the 911 victims fund and is as good as we're ever going to see in this task.

I trust Boats is going to be taken care of soon.

20 Billion is for the entire cleanup and money to business, local governments, etc not payroll.

100 Million, 20 Billion, what's the difference? Your axe will be ground either way. BP is not overpaying for the costs of the cleanup. You're welcome to argue that they are. I won't even bother to mention that it's being administered by an NGO, not the governement, you might flip out and shoot the president if you found that out.

Ditto with the larger fund: http://www.cnbc.com/id/37732454

The White House and BP tentatively agreed that the oil giant will create a $20 billion fund to pay claims for the worst oil spill in American history, to be independently run by the mediator who oversaw the 9/11 victims compensation fund, Kenneth Feinberg, according to two people familiar with the deliberations.

It's those damned socialists though, I understand.

Boats, what do you do? Signal, one of the local shipyards is/will be hiring. We are 2 hours from NOLA.

I'm a financial/business analyst. That's why it will be neigh on impossible for me to find another job in a small O&G town. There are very few companies that are large enough here to necessitate a position such as mine coupled with the pay.

Hopefully your experience translates to other industries too. I went almost a year without work, and am now commuting 280 miles one way each week. Seem a lot of us are having to do far less than ideal things to get by. My current gig runs through June, then it's back to scramble to have a future. Things seemed a hell of a lot better 10 years ago, didn't they?

You're not lying. 10 years ago I was 21, in college, broke, but free as a bird.

You may want to take a look at Houston.. it gets a bad rap, but it's affordable and has a relatively good economy, plus i can make it home to NOLA in a little over 5 hrs, or to LSU games in 4.. I'm actually looking for a new gig myself right now, but am getting lots of phone calls and interviews (knock wood that continues til i find something i want.)

Look, I don't know what most of you guys do, but my company has had high-level meetings almost every month to discuss ways to deal with the lack of qualified prospects for the positions open right now.

Enterprise Products operates in 34 states, employs over 5000 people, and is the largest publicly traded pertnership in the country. I have mentioned it a few times, but Enterprise is actually offering current employees referral bonuses of $1000.00 plus for any referral that makes it 90 days with the company. We NEED good people right now.

Enterprise is expanding operations in the Eagle Ford Shale, the Houston/Baytown area, The Barnett Shale near Ft. Worth, the Texas Panhandle, NW Louisiana around Shreveport and the Haynesville Shale, and in other select areas.

There are 88 positions posted on the public site. I can guarantee you that there are more on the company portal about to be released to public job search sites. This is a very strong company with good people and a great business plan. Our stock is steadily climbing, and Enterprise finances all its own capital projects internally. This company has increased the dividend paid to unitholders for 27 consecutive quarters.Best company I have ever worked for, period.

im not sure what you are trying to dispute in my post. bp is giving up the money and the government appointed guy is handling dispensing it. maybe you are confused?

Our town needs a new city manager. Would your background fit?

Not sure. It may. Finance and accounting as necessities in many positions in such as that. I will look at it if it's listed on-line

I used to be there once every month or two for my last position as HQ was in Houston and I was there for meetings all the time. The traffic there is a *****. But, yes it is in "reasonable" driving distance. Houston and Charlotte (my mom lives there) would fall in that category just before "last resort".

The overall fund is independent, top guy appointed by government, but not government agencies. The payroll one in question is much smaller, and run by a local NGO. Go ahead, you're Bush pattern evidently extends to everything: argue and pronounce, I won't disturb you or help with your threadjack further.

I have sent letter to 2 representatives and both senators. I will look into Myrick. Thanks.

Phone calls, phone calls, and more phone calls.

But do contact Myrick - or have your in-laws do so. She's rather quiet in not hearing about her but she does do a lot of good and will follow-through. My father was having problems getting his SS benefits because of some issue with his birth certificate and all other agencies were giving my parents the run-around. My mother contacted Myrick's office and a week later he had an official birth certificate and things were resolved.

if you had read the original post you would realize that the OP is not eligible for the rig worker fund, which was setup for gasp... people that actually work on drilling rigs. he has to go thru the 20 billion dollar fund that is administered by a government appointed "pay czar" that admitted in the quote that I provided that bp has nothing to do with the claims process or lack of timely payment. if you want to continue to make yourself look foolish that is fine, but at least pay attention to the facts that were already posted.

So today I brought in a letter to the claims office the local guy told me to write and three guys walk in to file a claim. I overhear, as they are right next to me, that they are there filing a claim b/c they are crawfishermen. I might be missing the connection here, but how exactly does the oil spill negatively effect the crawfish population or it's sale? If anything the spill helped freshwater fishermen b/c of the lack of seafood from the Gulf increased the demand and thus prices on crawfish and other freshwater fare.

I might be missing the point of how they were affected, but it seems this is the kind of nonsense that has no business in the claims office and keeps people with legitimate claims from getting paid.
