Bet we are the first ones to do it with a Hall of Fame QB and a top 10 offense over those same seasons.

The Fouts-era Chargers had a bunch of lousy seasons with the #1 offense and a defense that was usually around 25th-27th. This was after they made their run in '79-'82 (equivalent to our '09-'11). That's the best parallel I can draw.

Its a sad state of affairs when the best you can muster is, we are a better 7-9 team this year than the last 2 7-9 seasons.

Green Bay defined mediocrity when the Packers went 8-8 (not 7-9) for the following seasons:

1981 (Bart Starr)
1983 (Bart Starr)
1984 (Forrest Gregg)
1985 (Forrest Gregg)

Remember, the 1982 season was strike-shortened. The Packers went 5-4-1 that season.

They didn't have a winning season after 1982 ... until 1989 (Lindy Infante). They didn't have sustained success until some guy named Favre arrived along with coach Mike Holmgren.

They say you're either getting better or getting worse... the 2014 thru 2016 Saints beg to differ.

We'd have to go .500 from this point to achieve 7-9....not sure we can.

You really don't think the Saints have a decent chance of (a) winning 1 of their 2 games against Tampa...........and (b) beating EITHER Arizona or Atlanta ?

7-9 isn't the issue. I just want to see if we can somehow string 4 in a row together.

I think it's a toss up. We've been far too up and down, and the lows seem to me to be largely an effort/concentration issue - the players and coach alike. We're a long shot for the playoffs, while Tampa and Atlanta have much easier paths. They will put in the effort, will we? This Sunday will be very telling.
