Just got diagnosed with it. 3 months worth of antibiotics. All my joints are killing me. I had to go to numerous doctors to even figure out what was wrong. Exhausted but can't sleep at night. I found out some doctors don't even recognize it. I work with 2 other people that have had it and it really messed up one of my coworkers to where he almost lost everything he owned, couldn't work for like 8 or 9 months. Is there any alternative medicine to help with it ?

Dude that sucks so bad, I'm sorry to hear that. I know nothing about it, but best of luck. If I were to hit up a forum about it, I would start with Reddit.

I have a friend I grew up with who has it - I don't really know her very well anymore but she posts on Facebook about it. It sounds like there are just a lot of ups and downs. But there are definitely Facebook groups and other kinds of support networks out there. I'm sure that is a great place to get information about alternative medicine. I know that the medical community can be very frustrating when it comes to conditions like lyme disease.

I started getting gout a few years ago and it was rough at first but then I learned some self-treatments others had posted online. Definitely learn as much as you can. Hopefully yours won't be too bad. Keep us posted, we'll always at least be here to listen.

have you tried marijuana?

Sister in law has it. From what she describes as to what she has to do to keep it at bay on a daily/weekly basis is a little overwhelming for me, but she has a system and sticks to it. She's also a vegan which she says has helped her develop a regimen on staying ahead of it. But she says when her immune system is down it hits her pretty hard.

I was ignorant to what Lyme's was until she told me what she has to do to keep it from effecting her daily life.

I've been drinking a lot, never been a big drinker but the last few weeks I've been pouring it down after work. Usually hard liquor, don't really drink beer. It makes it manageable but I can't stay half drunk on a regular basis.

How did you get it? Do you spend alot of time in the woods hunting?

I had Lyme in 2011. Was in so much pain couldn't work for 4 months. Could not raise arms above my head. Numbness in my legs. Fever & night sweats all the time. Couldn't eat due to sever stomach pain, lost 30 lbs. in 30 days. Actually thought I would die. After many Dr. visits, was finally correctly diagnosed & put on a 3 week antibiotic treatment. I wish I could remember what it was,but I started feeling better almost immediately after taking it. Between the antibiotics & much prayer I fully recovered after about 6 months. I empathize with you brother & will pray for you. Feel free to message me with any questions. Be glad to be of any help,if I can.

They probably gave you Doxycycline, large doses for an extended period of time. Take it religiously. No alcohol (sorry - not worth the chance of negating that antibiotic.)

If you caught it early enough, you'll probably be fine. It's the people who go mis- or un-diagnosed for years who have it rough. Find a specialist and travel if you feel you're not getting answers. And look out for other tick-borne diseases that could also be in play.

Good luck!

Yeah that's what they gave me. It was a tick also...Lyme is bad here in Pa. I have to have one of those tick kits when I go out in the field, has the tick remover and a little container for the tick. Tick tested positive along with myself. Ever since I've been in Pa everyone talks about how the disease started in Ct. I know a few guys in there early 50s I used to work with that have had to retire cause of it. It effected one guy's feet so bad they pretty much went numb and when he could feel them he was in pain. Stuff scares me....I've been up here along time and I've been lucky up until now. The worst part of it is the sleep cycle is all screwed up. Exhausted and can't sleep at night, never had that issue before but it's a major issue along with forgetting stuff all the time. The last two weeks have been bad. I write in my daily calendar everyday but was forgetting to even write important stuff down and it is a religion for me to do so. I made sure my guys would email and text everything to me so I made sure I had important things. Ahh well, we will see.....
