Well, they tried the direct aproach when they told him 3-4 years ago when it all started. He didn't listen. Jenkins tried to tell him again in private. He didn't listen. So they decided to do it in a way that...
First off, Jenkins wasn't even on the team "3 or 4 years ago".......perhaps you're thinking of Cam Jordan there.......or perhaps there was some dialogue between Brees and Jenkins........but either way, what Jenkins ended up doing was essentially kicking a man when he was already taking public backlash. The fact that people on this forum are fine with how it was handled, and even seemingly rejoicing in it, speaks volumes about their awful mindset on this matter.

I didn't see Brees in January 2012 making a video saying "well maybe if Malcolm Jenkins didn't let Vernon Davis run by him with 40 seconds left, we might be hosting the NFCCG at home"

Though maybe he could have followed that with "but we talked on the phone, though.......I just felt the need to post this anyway".

I'd rather focus on the actual subject at hand than worry about a grown arse man being verbally "attacked."
Ok, fine..the subject at hand.

No, it hasn't decreased my enthusiasm. I'll even be all-in rooting for Malcolm Jenkins to provide that veteran leadership/steadiness in the secondary that I HOPE we get from him........in spite of how he handled this matter. I'm a fan of the Saints and the game itself, above all other noise.

They actually had it out in private. They talked on the phone and had a heart to heart moments before he posted his videos.
That’s not true.

He posted his first video and maybe a second (that he took down), then recorded his tearful video. After that, he spoke with Brees privately and then posted the tearful video after the talk. The only reason Brees reached out to him was the first video Malcolm posted then removed; otherwise why would Brees have reached out to him?

I have seen lots of people over the last month or so have the same take as yourself on this- but they seem to convienently forget that Drew’s remarks were made on a public platform- so why shouldn’t the reaction to those remarks be public as well??
Exactly.

If a co-worker or friend makes an off-color comment or joke in front of a group of people, do people think the best way to handle that is privately? Do you all REALLY believe that? Silence in that situation equals approval. If nobody calls someone out for bad behavior, especially the kind done very publicly, then it has much less impact if that discussion isn’t had immediately and in front of the same crowd that was the audience for the remark.

So honestly, all you who think Jenkins shouldn’t have reacted publicly — do you think people should have reacted only privately to Kaepernick taking a knee? Did all of you calling out Malcolm Jenkins for his reaction that contained an expletive react the same way when the President reacted to Kaepernick with a public response that contained an expletive?

Is "politics" the new word for any difference of opinion? We don't live in a vacuum and neither do the players.
When it is a difference of opinion completely unrelated to the x's and o's in the game of American football, yes. But it is not a new word to most.

This condescending "take" gives the implication that you and/or Malcolm Jenkins somehow know the best way to "reach" Drew Brees.

Telling Brees "(bleep) You" in a video is apparently something you see no issue with, or, at minimum, are tolerant of.

As others have said, he could have just called Brees up, like a man.......and stated "hey, here's why I take issue with this, this and that"........and even if he felt he did have to go to social media, could have handled it way more professionally.

People are incorrectly equating criticism toward Jenkins's approach as "shut up and dribble".............. if that's the case, why has no one taken Colston to task? Because Colston (who, by the way, also went to social media) addressed his difference in opinion in a far more professional manner..............Professional, which is what Drew Brees has been nothing but.

To say you and/or Jenkins know better than Brees how to handle that situation is simultaneously not giving the man near enough credit, while giving you and/or Jenkins way too much.
There are different people in the world with different personalities. Colston's greatest attribute in my opinion wasn't that he was a great player, teammate or any of that, but his quiet and calm presence. Of course, he's going to handle something that upsets him differently than someone who is outspoken. Still, Colston taking to twitter to say his peace is tantamount to screaming from a mountain top for most.

Here's my point.

Brees was refusing to hear what he was being told and when he kicked the bear, the bear kicked back. Now, he's heard the bear in no uncertain terms and he's changed. Complaining about how Jenkins handled it is just window dressing and, imho, an attempt to discredit the emotion he and other black players feel while giving Brees a pass for being a cod piece.

More importantly, Brees's character shines through. He manned up. He called. He listened. He talked with those he upset and he apologized and he's changed his mind. Nothing exudes character more than being willing to change and/or apologize when you're wrong. Nothing. So Brees's character has, again imho, been highlighted and enhanced by this rather than diminished.

Trust me, no one has forgotten that Brees did absolutely not one thing wrong and was merely answering a question, followed by getting unfairly/ridiculously chastised over it. You also quoted, but didn't acknowledge, the part that began with "and even if he felt he did have to go to social media"...

In addition, Brees didn't say "(bleep) those who are kneeling during the anthem". He stated his own personal position on the matter, professionally and with his usual class.
Brees did something wrong.

He refused after being told a thousand times to listen to what he was told and he characterized the protest as a protest against the flag.

The fact that you'd post this shows exactly how closed minded you are and is exactly why everyone is clowning you throughout the entire thread.

this is what needs to be screamed from the mountaintop
anyone still butthurt about the Brees thing and tries to handwave his apology, needs to check themselves like Brees checked himself
exactly like you say, people need to man up (or person up)

I've literally seen no one call Malcolm Jenkins a "thug".

Stop trying so hard.
LOL. I'd encourage you to try a bit harder with both your worldview and your posts. You come off as a guy who thinks he's winning this thread but the deluge of clowns and dead Falcons should tell you otherwise. Try to have some self-awareness.

And you come off as exactly what Allen West described about white progressives........minus the part where you're bright enough/connected enough/wealthy enough to carry it out for the reason(s) he indicated. Meaning you're little more than just a race-baiting troll.
