Have we witnessed the peak of human civilization? If so, when was it? (1 Viewer)

If we survive, no. We're not even close. We're still a Type Zero civilization on the Kardashev scale. Michio Kaku thinks we'll make it to Type 1 in another 100-200 years. I think it might even be sooner but it depends on the ITER Fusion Reactor actually working as advertised. Musk getting us to colonize another world would also help.

Are advancements in technology necessarily making us happier or more satisfied or more enlightened?

First of all, the Kardashev scale is basically nonsense. It's an arbitrary scale based on zero observed data points. No one's harnessing all the energy of a galaxy.

Taken out of context this post was shockingly brutal.

That’s like saying the purpose of technology is to get better pornography to us more quickly
While that’s usually one of the chief byproducts, it’s seldom the purpose
Direct - learning about the universe and uncovering its mysteries. exs: Telescopes, microscopes, exploration, computing power, etc...

Indirect - making life easier and more expedient so that we can devote more time and energy to personal betterment and understanding. exs: automobiles, airplanes, cell phones, getting pornography to us more quickly, etc...

I’ll have to chew on it a bit more, but I don’t think you can have an indirect purpose- that seems like having unintentional intentions
I still think your conflating purpose with unintended benefit/consequence
