i used to have asthma pretty bad when i was a kid. but i havent had it bother me in probably close to 10 years... well all of a sudden in the last week it started acting up again. i made an appt for thursday to see my doctor to get me an inhaler or something, but until then i dont have anything to take, is there anything i could do that would hold me over until thursday morning? my chest is getting tighter and its getting harder to breathe...

Probably nothing you can do. I would call the doctor and tell them youre having breathing problems. If not call another doctor.

Call your doctor's office and tell them you need to come in immediately to get a breathing treatment. If they can't fit you in you need to go to a clinic or even the emergency room to get a breathing treatment before your asthma gets worse.

Yeah... its not the most pleasant stuff, but it'll do. Seriously, I would not use it for more than just a few days. I am a severe asthmatic, so I can sympathize...

what kind of medicine are you one? my dr visit is on thursday morning but i have no clue what im gonna be prescribed. probably just an inhaler hunh?

I tried the primatene and it didnt do anything. I take formoterol. mometasone, singulair, and I have the combivent inhaler for emergency. I couldnt use just the inhaler because I was using it 12 or more times per day. Dr. said I would become immune to it. I guess it all depends how serious your problem is.

Boiling water into a basin or something, put it on a chair and sit opposite it leaning over so the steam goes onto your chest and air passages. I'm in the same position, had it bad as a kid and it still acts up. I still have a proper steamer thing that my mom bought ages ago that does the same job only makes sure the steam lasts longer. Use it anytime I start getting a chesty cough and it clears things up.

Definately loosens your airways up and helps you breathe easier. Also get some Vick VapoRub stuff and rub it all over your chest and back when you're going to sleep. It's terrible in the morning but it's worth it cause it clears you up.

Call your Doc and get the apt moved up.....He needs to get you on a long term bronchodialator, like Advair, for maintenance therapy, maybe a steroid. He also needs to put you on a fast acting drugs like Albuterol, or Xopenex....

Don't mess around with it.....

I too had asthma and I know how bad it sucks.

Primatine is otc and that's what you need to tide you over. Use it as little as possible, like only when you really need it.
It (the inhaler mist) tastes like cat dook in the back of your throat after you use it so I'd recommend having a soda or some fruit juice standing by.

good luck

I used to get asthmatic bronchitis. The only otc stuff that helped me when I had an asthma episode was Bronkaid. It's a pill. I could feel my bronchial passages opening up after several minutes.

Be careful with this and primatene, they are both ephedrine. I would do whatever I could to see a doctor instead of taking these things. They are pretty nasty.
