Largest Vegas Favorites in History as the Saints (8-0) will face-off against the (0-8) St. Louis Rams. Care to wager on the line for that one?

My guess is something like St. Louis (+27.5)

interesting question. fyi:

"According to Robert Walker, the Director of the Race and Sports Book at MGM Mirage in Vegas., the highest anyone can find is Steelers-Bucs in 1976. Pittsburgh was defending Super Bowl champ, the Bucs were first-year expansion babies who finished 0-14. The line was 24. The Steelers won, 42-0."

Doubt it'll be more than 17 or so. The 07 Pats obliterated every line until Vegas quit putting lines up for their games for a couple of weeks, so that might happen to the Saints.

Anyone know the line on the 14-0 Patriots vs. 1-13 Dolphins?

The keep saying Vegas is losing thier butts this year because of so many good teams beating the spread over so many bad team. The numbers are starting to get crazy. I think Vegas is mixing up the spread a bit on some games to screw up parlay bets.

Some examples:

Baltimore is playing at home against Denver. These teams faced 4 common opponents already this year and Baltimore lost to 2 of the teams. So you would think on a neutral field Denver would be a favorite. But giving the Ravens 3 for being at home they are still a 1/2 point favorite.

Same with the Jags who are a 3 point dog to the titans with VY starting.

And and even crazier line is San Diego getting 16.5 over the Raiders. I know it's the crazy Raiders, but they should have beat the Chargers in week 1 and it's still a division game.

Vegas did not take any Pats games off the board during 2007. until the game at Indianapolis, though, vegas never really asked you to lay a ridiculous number as the pats were only double digit favorites against really bad teams in the first half of the season (Buffalo, Cleveland, @Miami and Washington).

After the Indy game, however, the spreads jumped immediately into the giant category. See all 16 spreads below

New England closed as a 24.5 point favorite at home against Philadelphia on 11/25/2007. Kevin Kolb seemed to be a pretty good quarterback that day also

First off, the Saints have to defeat Atlanta and Carolina (although both at home) first.

Secondly, I don't believe the initial betting line would be over about 17. The reason being, anything much over that will begin to bring in loads of $$$ on St. Louis. And that would tend to LOWER the spread again. Methinks, at Rams +27, most of the $$$ would be taking the Rams and the points. Vegas wants approximately the same amount bet on either side. That's how they make money.

Here's a true story.

Some years back, when the Chicago Bears were very good, and the Tampa Bay Bucs were very bad (kind of like now for TB) the initial line for the Bears-Bucs game was Chicago -11. Most of the early $$$ came in on the Bears (spotting TB the 11) that the line peaked at 17.

A very wealthy person placed a hefty bet on the initial line (Bears -11) then placed an equal bet on TB +17 when the line peaked. Chicago won by 13, and the bettor collected on BOTH bets.

College lines are typically much heftier than the pro lines. Again several years ago, the Florida Gators opened the season at home against Montana State. The line was Florida -62. Bettors saw that really large line, and put lots of $$$ on Montana State (I mean, they were getting 62 points). Florida wion the game 69-0, and all those Montana State bettors lost their shirts.
