Holes left to fill (1 Viewer)

Given that neither Galette and Wilson are SAMs having only one player at the SAM is asking for disaster. You always go at least 2 deep at every single position on defense. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see us even end up with 9 total linebackers.

Wilson is a Sam

He was brought in originally to play SAM in 3G's scheme.

The SAM in this scheme has the same responsibilities.

Whether he is a good enough Sam is the question which is why i think Jamie Collins should be on our Radar since we cant acquire a veteran. Though there are guys like Shawn Phillips who are still available to provide competion. However i think its time we draft a pass rusher as our last was Will Smith.

I think they will wait till after the draft before they select a QB2...see who drafts whom and what possible cuts will be made. We will get a better price also.JMHO.

You're probably correct. The big thing is time for the QB to have the playbook and study prior to OTA in May. Could be post draft but pre-draft would alleviate having to cram. Sean always has a flair for QB signings so I don't see it as a huge issue. Saints have a plan to address it. That much I know. As the strategy has unfolded you can see they have had a pretty good offseason plan.

No one seems to be taking into account the revised rookie salary structure. It's redefined the way the GM's have to look at the draft. If you can get a starting caliber QB, LT, CB or premium end(10 mil+ a year) then you absolutely take that player in the first round.

If I was a GM in football in today's world my draft value chart would look like this, I'd grade every player in the top 32 based on potential to be an immediate starter and the cost of a top 10 guy at that position. Then order the list by the position cost and wherever you are on draft day(unless you're absolutely stacked for years to come at that position, do it).

Here's an example based on 5 year rookie 1st round deals.

2012 LT ~10 mil veteran cost
2013 DE ~9 mil veteran cost
2014 CB ~8 mil veteran cost
2015 CB ~8 mil veteran cost
2016 DE ~9 mil veteran cost

Actual yearly cost based on average of pick 15(2.5 mil each year).

44 mil - 12.5 mil(avg 2.5 X 5) = 32.5 mil in cap savings for starters.

I'd stick to that formula every year. Use the huge cap savings on premium positions to go into the free agency market and shore up wide receiver, guard, DT, and safety which usually have to come form the first round as well.

I think you're on to something the Saints are doing but with a twist. They're not overpaying OLT when it comes time for the big payday. One reason is scheme and the other is their knack for finding good players in lower rounds. Saints haven't overpaid the left tackle for some time. They've ultimately decided to invest elsewhere. This is a major reason I don't think the Saints will sign a veteran OLT in 2013. They will go with what they have now and draft at least one tackle and sign 1-2 UDFA tackles.

I trust the Saints FO plan. It's a technique which has allowed them to remain a player in FA despite other big contracts. Saints were able to avoid what Ravens are having to endure (massive roster purge).

I think you'll see us address the lb corps. You need several lb to play the 3-4.

Not only olb that can rush but one can that can drop back.

We also need a ILB that can cover and that's why we were probalby looking at Zavier Gooden..

Hawthirne and Lofton are not ideal 3-4 backers really

We could use another 3-4 end for the rotation and a longterm answer that's bigger than Bunkley at NT.

Finally, both starting safeties need replacement...but FS is priority.

We've addressed the CB position in free agency but i wouldn't mind picking up Jordan Poyer in the 3rd as he's a playmaker. Would give us flexibility to cut greer if he has age dropoff and even let prob go next year since he was a bust....

He may be listed as a SAM but right now toe he looks like a rush specialist at least until his read/react skills develop more. I wouldn't be surprised to see us carry 9 linebackers using Wilson in different spots to utilize his speed. Right now all we can do is speculate but once camp gets going we will know.
