Reid Miller will get his chance to compete for an NFL job next week with the New Orleans Saints.
Miller, a Hollidaysburg native, had a productive college career playing for Arkansas and then for Montana as a senior. The safety and special teams ace put up strong numbers at his pro day, drawing interest from several teams following last weekend’s NFL draft.
At 9 a.m. Sunday, he got a call from the Saints offering an invite to the team’s rookie minicamp May 10-12.
“I was obviously pretty excited,” Miller said of the call. “It was definitely a surprise just because I never talked to the Saints through the whole draft process.”
He did have talks with the Seahawks, Vikings and Jets prior to the draft.
Miller, who’s 5-foot-8 and 208 pounds, hopes he can show the Saints that he can be a “Swiss Army knife” type of player. He played both safety positions and the nickel in college, plus has extensive experience on special teams. ...
