Hey guys, we had a big thread over on the old board getting everyone together to watch the games, so I figured I'd start us up one here.

Before the start of the season, we decided to meet up at Woodrow's sports bar (On Chimney Rock, between Richmond and Westheimer, Galleria area) to watch the games. So far I know that myself, Superdome (who was the original organizer), Skymike, Houston Houdat, Deuuuce, Lee Newell, and Primadox (among others, I'm sure) as well as a slew of Saints fans not on the board have shown up. It's a really good place to watch the game, as they've got the entire 2nd floor tuned to the Saints game so you don't have to worry about those pesky other 20 something teams trying to play at the same time. I encourage anyone in the area that hasn't previously made it out there to come out if at all possible (that is unless you have tickets to the game, in which case I can unapoligetically say: You blow :angryrazz: ).

Hope everyone survived the bye week and looking forward to seeing you guys this Sunday.

:gosaints:

We haven't been able to make a game yet this year...tomorrow is the first free Sunday we've had, and it's a bye. :( Late games are impossible, so we won't see you next Sunday either. We miss our Hou-Dat family!!

And Ed, we're standing by...!!! :)

A time for change...

Many of you know our history here. Some of you had been going to Woodrow's before I got to Houston in the wake of Katrina. He Who Cannot Be Named (what the heck, SkyMike...from now on) and I got together in the spring of 2006 because I had no where to go to watch the Saints games. I, who had only missed three games TOTAL in the history of the Saints had spent a season in exile. SkyMike had met Casey (now Mrs. SkyMike) and she suggested they get season tickets and make the drive to New Orleans to see the games. SkyMike, a native born Texan, who adopted the Saints when Bum was fired and went to New Orleans and me, about as N'awlins as you can get...Bum was the first Saints coach I worked with in New Orleans. SkyMike and I actually sat in the same endzone in the Astrodome that year, though we would not meet until years later.

With my experience with fundraisers with the Saints back in New Orleans and SkyMike's pied piper personality and cruise-director mentality we realized that if we could put together a group of Saints' fans and get them all together in one place, we could get a better deal for eveyone because numbers mean dollars. That spring we visited places all over Houston. We settled on Woodrow's...thus the Hou-Dat's were born.

We have shared the good times and bad together at Woodrow's, the playoff loss to the Bears in Chicago and I will never forget the night of the NFC Championship game when Woodrow's finally let me do what I had been asking for a long time and DJ. I humbly think that it added a lot to the experience that night. To those of you who traveled to New Orleans and watched the game on Bourbon St. with us, what can I say? A life long dream fulfilled!

I have to be honest and say our relationship with Woodrow's had many positives, but there have also been our rocky moments of which there is no need to go down those roads again. Being a true New Orleanian, I know how important traditions are, but just as Tulane Stadium gave way to the Superdome, I know that sometimes there comes a time for change. Afer talking to many of you, and much thoughtful reflection, HWCBN and I feel like we have arrived at one of those times where change is needed.

We cannot tell you where to go to watch the games, but the same is true today as it was back in the spring of 2006, numbers mean dollars and a better deal. Our vision of what we want the game day experience to be has started to greatly differ with the vision of the management at Woodrow's. The Saints in New Orleans has always been a family tradition. It cut across political, racial, and economic lines. At least on Sunday afternoons, we were united as one. We wish that no one be excluded from this experience. We have many young members with minor children who are no longer welcome. I TOTALLY understand the position that Woodrow's is in, but to those of us who have been to LSU games at Woodrow's, know we are NOT treated the same way as the Tiger fans are treated. I have tried to communicate this to the mangement at Woodrow's only to be met with overly defensive replies, some of us, even with threats of being thrown out or banned. We no longer find this acceptable.

HWCBN and I have been scouting other places that could host us. We have a suggestion. We have spoken Daniel Razo the GM of Ragin Cajun's. We would like to suggest the location on Westheimer and Gessner (9600 Westheimer) and they would be really happy to host ALL of us. It is important to have the kids with us for a lot of reasons: these are the HOU-DATS of the future, we can't get a babysitter, but above all, so that they will have the memories of what it was like to watch the game with dad and/or mom. Also, Mr. Razo has offered us $6 pitchers of domestic beer ($8 premium), $14 dollar buckets of domestic beer ($16 dollar premium), along with $3.50 mimosas and screw drivers. These prices are cheaper or match what Woodrow's offers. They have a very extensive menu ( http://www.ragin-cajun.com ) to please many tastes, and IMHO, the food is just better.

Hope to see all of you at the new home of the Hou-Dats...Ragin Cajun's!!!

I don't know how many of the crowd that goes to Big Woodrows found their way through this board, but isn't that Ragin Cajun location a bit small? I've seen the number of Saints fans at BWs so big that people were watching downstairs as well as up.

I love that location - I used to live around the corner from the Gessner Ragin Cajun and ate there twice a week easy - (they have Ole Miss and Ms. State fans on Saturday's). Their food is much better in my opinion as well.

I understand the problem regarding children, so I hope that works out for you. I seem to remember them not having that many TVs though (but that was a while back). Have they since put up more?

They have added TV's and would also open up their patio for us. We also discussed making more room by doing the tables banquet style, which they said they could do.

Brutal, I don't have any kids...but I, along with many others without kids, want the game experience to be better for all of us.

If Ragin Cajun's gets too crowded we will go from there. I don't expect everyone to just move, but I know that the folks at Ragin Cajun's are willing to work with us to make our game day experience more enjoyable.

I will be there...early... :)

We won't be able to be there...late games are impossible for us, and we'll have family in town...we're already trying to figure out how to be two places at once AND watch the game. Hope to see you next time! :)

And how many of you will be celebrating Thanksgiving at Ragin Cajun's? :D

We miss you guys! Edvinna and I will be in KC for the Dallas game, so we will need some folks to uphold the HouDat banner that night! We are at Ragin Cajun's from here on out...NEW official home of the HouDats!

I'm at Ragin Cajun's. I spoke to Daniel and he said he is going to put on Saints in the main room with sound after Texans.
Had a really good bowl of Gumbo for "breakfast."

What will the setup be when the Saints and Texas are playing at the same time? Will we still be able to get sound, perhaps in another room?

We have had great times and food at Ragin Cajun Westheimer and Gessner the last few weeks. We have also grown in number...I know many will be going to NOLA for the game, but if you are in town please give it a try...I promise that the food is better, not the over-seasoned Texas version of cajun/creole we see so often.

I just moved to Houston three months ago and I used to go to Ragin Cajun in Sugar Land and while they played the Saints game it wasn't a good atmosphere for the game as a Saints fan. But the food was really good. Best Cajun food in town that I've had so far.... Last week I went to Woodrows and the place was rockin. Loved the atmosphere, but the food wasn't as good. Are these the two places to go... or is there another Ragin Cajun locatin that has more saints fans?
