10 andy gator pitchers and 6 long islands...

I am sad I will be in Shreveport for the season opener... I will have a long island at the bar there in honor of the Hou Dats. :)

100 pages. Holy Cow! I think it's time for a new thread. I'm too far south to make it to that area. But I'll be pullin' for da boys down in Angleton.

We've got school curriculum night for our 8th grader that night...second time it's landed on the night of the Saints opening game. Ugh. So, we won't be there, of course. Have fun!

So school adminstrators don't look at the NFL schedule...:idunno: We have open house that night...until 8pm! I'm only a few mins. away from Ragin Cajun's but what are they thinking?

Please Kellye, if I ever think of taking a job outside of the classroom, just shoot me.:hihi:

It is actually longer than that; we lost a lot in a change of servers.:smilielol:

As a New Orleanian, there is something to be said for tradition!

Which is the better place in Houston for watching a Saints game - Woodrow's or Ragin Cajun.

I'm from Slidell but I'm stuck in Houston on business. The original Ragin Cajun is very close to my hotel, but Woodrow's isn't too far away.

how long are you in town on business???

Saints games on in Houston

Since this thread has come up, it strikes me as a reasonable spot to post the outlook for Saints TV coverage in Houston.

It's always tricky here, trying to avoid the Texans and Cowboys. Plus there's the occasional Titans game, and KRIV's annoying tendency to show us Eagles-Redskins. (Because hey, both are in the same division as Dallas! :jpshakehead:)

Anyway, this year has a tough start but all in all actually looks pretty promising. Dallas and N.O. both get some late afternoon games, and Houston is finally decent enough to get 4 prime time games (plus one on turkey day). That clears up the schedule quite a bit.

I'll group these by likelihood, and then chronologically.

Prime time games:
Week 5: Sun night vs. SD
Week 8: Sun night @ DEN
Week 9: Mon night vs. PHI
Week 13: Thurs night @ ATL (* NFL Network)

Probably on in Houston:

Week 4: Sun 3p @ GB......(HOU plays early, DAL plays Mon.)
Week 10: Sun 12n vs. ATL......(HOU plays Mon., DAL plays @ 3p. Fox DH.)
Week 11: Sun 3p @ OAK......(HOU/DAL both play early.)
Week 12: Sun 3p vs. SF......(HOU/DAL both on Thansgiving.)
Week 14: Sun 3p vs. NYG......(HOU plays Mon., DAL plays early. Fox DH.)

Possibly on in Houston:

Week 3: Sun 12n vs. KC......(HOU plays at 3p, DAL at 12n but on Fox - CBS DH.)
Also, the only Saints game on CBS until the Super Bowl!
Week 16: Sun 12n @ DAL......(HOU also 12n on Fox, but NO-DAL is a good candidate to be moved. FOX DH.)
Week 17: Sun 12n vs. CAR......(No way to know yet. HOU plays on the road, so the city will get all 4 double-DH games.)

Better find a sports bar:
Week 1: Sun 12n vs. WAS......(HOU is home at noon. Fox DH)
Like all owners, Bob McNair apparently needs to make money selling nachos and parking spaces.
Week 2: Sun 12n @ CAR......(HOU also plays early, DAL plays @ 3p, CBS DH. Nope.)
Week 7: Sun 12n @ TB......(HOU also plays early, CBS DH.)
Week 15: Sun 12n vs. TB......(pretty much the same story)

All of which results in:

Week 1: Sun 12n vs. WAS - no
Week 2: Sun 12n @ CAR - no
Week 3: Sun 12n vs. KC - possible
Week 4: Sun 3p @ GB - probable
Week 5: Sun night vs. SD - prime time
Week 6: idle
Week 7: Sun 12n @ TB - no
Week 8: Sun night @ DEN - prime time
Week 9: Mon night vs. PHI - prime time
Week 10: Sun 12n vs. ATL - probable
Week 11: Sun 3p @ OAK - probable
Week 12: Sun 3p vs. SF - probable
Week 13: Thurs night @ ATL - prime time (NFLN)
Week 14: Sun 3p vs. NYG - probable
Week 15: Sun 12n vs. TB - no
Week 16: Sun 12n @ DAL - not yet, but possible
Week 17: Sun 12n vs. CAR - possible, though unlikely

There's a bit more that may go into specific weeks, but we in Houston may get as many as 3/4 of the Saints games without Season Ticket or some garbage internet feed. Pretty darn good.

thanks. that gives me more ammunition when i do my annual haggling with directv. seeing how i'm going to the chiefs and cowboys games, they're gonna have to give me a nice discount in order for me to keep sunday ticket this year.

excellent work.. thank you so much for compiling this list.. living in Houston, these things have been a constant source of irritation for me over the last few years, so it's nice to see that we may get a good number of Saints games on tv this year.. here's hoping you are right.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I thought I would elaborate on a couple of the iffy ones:

Possibly on in Houston:
Week 3: Sun 12n vs. KC......(HOU plays at 3p, DAL at 12n but on Fox - CBS DH.)
Also, the only Saints game on CBS until the Super Bowl!
What might interfere: JAX @ IND, also at noon. This will be the first Indy game of the season that can be shown in Houston, possibly the only one in the first 6-7 weeks. Andrew Luck went to HS here, and his dad was with the Oilers. It's probably not going to be a good game, but if Indy starts well and KC does not, the Saints may not be on.

Week 16: Sun 12n @ DAL......(HOU also 12n on Fox, but NO-DAL is a good candidate to be moved. FOX DH.)
Snag #1: Fox has two OK late games: SF @ SEA, CHI @ AZ. Chicago is a big draw, so if they're playing well and AZ is decent, they'll get lots of air.

Snag #2: Even if Fox does move a more important game to later in the day, NYG @ BAL is also scheduled for noon.

Get Out Of Jail Free card?: The Sunday night game is SD @ NYJ. That doesn't immediately strike me as an "instant classic." :) So the flex is an option. Fox can't protect both NO @ DAL -and- NYG @ BAL from NBC... only one game a week. None of those 4 teams is maxed on prime time appearances at present. With any luck, Fox will protect NYG @ BAL, even though BAL is a lousy national draw.

Just some really crap luck week 16 - it's the only Texans game on Fox the whole year.

So something like 10 games (one NFLN) is probably about right for the Saints in Houston - still not bad at all.
