It seems that there are quite a few of us in varying penguin rankings.
I think the linux board could help and keep of the pertinent thds in one place

You mean something better that the SNOTE Board?!?!

I think it should be an 'Alternative OS' board? I know we have some BSD friendly ones here.

Only if it could explain this error I got this morning

You are running a kernel (version 2.6.8-2-686-smp) and attempting to remove
the same version. This is a potentially disastrous action. Not only
will /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.8-2-686-smp be removed, making it impossible to boot
it, (you will have to take action to change your boot loader to boot
a new kernel), it will also remove all modules under the directory
/lib/modules/2.6.8-2-686-smp. Just having a copy of the kernel image is not
enough, you will have to replace the modules too.

I repeat, this is very dangerous. If at all in doubt, answer
no. If you know exactly what you are doing, and are prepared to
hose your system, then answer Yes.

Remove the running kernel image (not recommended) [No]?

I'd being interested in it. I have Ubuntu installed on a VM so I learn about it. I have zero knowledge but I'd like to learn more.

Linux has some good errors. I like the one where you try to create a tar file, but don't provide the source of the tar operation. Looks something like this:

[root@SIPP-3 mst]# tar -cvf test.tar
tar: Cowardly refusing to create an empty archive

Beastie agrees. Not sure there would be enough *BSD[Mac]/Linux traffic though.

I agree. Make it "Alternative O/S".
