This week’s regular New Orleans Saints free agent workout features some big names, one bigger than the rest: former Dallas Cowboys superstar Dez Bryant. But is Bryant really a better option than his competition? Per NFL Network reports, the other two receivers are Brandon Marshall and Kamar Aiken.
To find out, I compared their stats to each other and some other veterans who have recently made moves, sourcing data from Pro Football Reference. Here’s what I’ve found:
Bryant turned 30 just days ago on Nov. 4, and played in 116 games (including the playoffs) for Dallas. He scored 75 touchdowns in those appearances, averaging 66.2 yards per game and 14.1 yards per catch. That’s pretty good.
Marshall will be 35 next March and has appeared in 178 games for six different teams. He logged 83 touchdowns in his career with a yards-per-game average of 69.4, including 12.7 yards per catch. Nice production for someone who was in the league for so long, but clearly not a scoring machine like Bryant – hitting paydirt just eight more times in 62 more games. ...
