I hate to harp on the past, but I was livid after the Washington game. I just could not understand how we lost, and as you guys know that's not a feeling a Saints fan is used to having. I just know we were the way better team and the Giants proved tonight that we should have beaten the Redskins by 40. Funny game this football is, eh?

How did we only score 10 points on them?

their defense looked pitiful tonight...I sincerely hope that was just an off day. :dunno:

Payton over-worked the team a little during the week, so as not to go in to Washington on an emotional let down, instead they went in on heavy legs from overtraining. Payton said he wouldn't do it that way again.

Incidentally we lost or game after the bye week and Payton is changing his bye week strategy as well. Our coach is young and makes mistakes, but he learns from them.

The biggest reason is that we just didn't play our game. Payton admitted that he would've approached it differently had he known how flat they would be. That and I think a little too much emphasis was made on celebrating the title ahead of time. Even the players alluded to having something special ready for the fans after the game. That's a sign that they were a little over-confident or not entirely focused on the task at hand. In hindsight, they might have played better and won had the opponent been a stronger team coming in, but since it was the Skins, everyone pretty much assumed that they would win. Again, that's over-confidence.

Plus, I also believe that the players have a tendency to press a little more when they're at home for the sake of the fans, the city, etc., which can sometimes be a bad thing as it causes you to play a little too tight. That might've also contributed to the Ravens loss.

I'll say this though about the Skins. I'm not sure that in a year or two, that isn't one of the better offenses in the NFC. Campbell is starting to look pretty good and Betts is having a fantastic season. With Moss and Randel-El at WR, they could be dangerous on offense.
