How Ed Orgeron outsmarted college football (1 Viewer)

I just meant "Is the Troy State loss from two years ago still meaningful today?"

In a sense, yes. It speaks to O's ability to be the on-the-field coach. He's found his niche, which is good for the LSU program.

So for that game ... Matt Canada, Dave Aranda and the staff were just kind of out of the way while Orgeron was coaching more hands-on that evening?

And in this season, Orgeron pretty much just lays back and lets Steve Ensminger, Joe Brady, and Aranda make all decisions?

Why does Orgeron take so much of the blame for past embarrassing losses but receive too little credit for the team's highs this season? If the buck stops with Orgeron and it's fair for him to be heaped upon after a bad loss ... the inverse should be true. He should fairly get credit for wins if the buck truly stops with him. Maybe even a little undue credit since Orgeron personally assumes anyone else's bad efforts during losses.

Nick Saban lost to ULM while in Alabama. Every coach has at least one nasty loss to a team that had no business beating them.
So if LSU loses to Oklahoma, who gets the blame, Coach O or "his actual coaches" as you put it? Something tells me, Coach O will get blame, even from you.

Thank you.

Nick Saban -- I mean his Tigers (this ain't tennis) -- also lost to University of Alabama-Birmingham his first season in Baton Rouge, too. Totally reflective of his overall coaching ability and a perfect harbinger of what was to come for Saban.

Or maybe not?

We are looking at one of the best, if not the best, seasons of LSU football in its long history and some people still can't admit they were wrong and can only bring themselves to give backhanded complements to CEO

sad, really

I think Herman would have had LSU's offense playing better more quickly, not having to waste three years figuring out that you need to call pass plays and maybe utilize the tight end from time to time.
Saw this tweet elsewhere ... had to drop it in here:

@CoachZachSmith

I remember when I took Tom Herman to see Lamar Jackson and he told me and our staff he was too dumb to play QB... what a time. #Mensa

Not fair, because a whole lot of college football coaches passed on Lamar Jackson as a QB. Still, appreciated the Herman zinger in the context of this thread.

Orgeron has smartly surrounded himself with people to do the actual coaching while he recruits and rah-rahs on the sidelines. It was a good move by him to do so.

The fact that you think he wasted 3 years shows either how biased you are or how little you know about football. He is just now in his third year and we have the best offense and are in the playoffs.
His first year was 2017 and he was using Miles's players...that is another fact you are ignoring.
In 2018 LSU did better than anybody predicted and certainly here in 2019
And if what CEO is doing is so easy, and not all that special, then why isnt everyone doing it? Why isnt every head coach taking a team that was in shambles and getting them into the playoffs in their third year?
I mean...since you dont think he is doing much it should be easy for any head coach of a major conference school

It actually tells a lot. Joe Burrow was told he wasn't good enough. Herman could have easily thought the same thing after hearing from other coaches, If Herman would have come to LSU, I seriously doubt Burrow would have ended up here.
But who knows, may be would have found someone else who he could turn into a Heisman winner, we'll never know.

He's an inspiration to bumpkins everywhere!

On this point specifically: Tom Herman was OC under Urban Meyer at Ohio State when Joe Burrow commited after his junior year of high school. By the time Burrow got to Columbus, though, Herman had already taken the HC job at Houston.

Tru
It's taken him 3 plus years to find someone to run the offense for him.
true. But he was willing to adapt. Willing to listen to the opinions of other people. How do you think you become a great coach. You learn and adapt

I agree 100%. He knows himself, knows he needs others to do the Xs and Os portion of the gig, and is humble enough to allow them to do so. As long as he sticks to that formula, LSU should be fine.

Yeah, he didnt outsmart anybody. He's realized his limitations (coaching, speaking in complete sentences) and hired people who can do those things while he plays the mascot. I give him credit for that, though, and knowing himself.
You obviously never meet the man, had a conversation with the man, or listen to him talk about schematics. If you had you would never make such a comment.

How nice it must be to be so smart we can sit in judgment on someone simply for they way the speak. Your the kind of person that told my great grandfather to tell his children they would not be allowed to speak Cajun French in school or they would be expelled. “ we need to teach our children proper grammar, not that Cajun crap’ which is of course why our culture is disappearing because they were told it made their kids look stupid, and now we have a whole generation that knows nothing of Cajun French or dialect.

Way to go

Oh and by the way no one ever said football was nuclear science. You can be a genius in your area of expertise without having to conform to other peoples idea of what a genius is

As the child of a Cuban immigrant who speaks two languages, I can safely say you're wrong.
