I haven't gotten a chance to see them play, but I know their record and who they've beaten/lost to. However, this isn't a much different team than the Carolina that swept us last year and has beaten us every year in the Dome for the past 5 years.

Could they really be THAT bad this year? I've seen the Falcons, and I know the Dome will be rocking for them. But, 7-0 playing the Panthers, I'm concerned we may not try that hard and lose.

True that they are pretty much the same team, but I'd say that Steve Smith has lost whatever confidence he had in Delhome despite what they might tell the media. Peppers is a whole other story that infects the whole defense when many might consider him a leader! I don't believe that the Saints will take anybody for granted division or not but this year you won't see Steve Smith doing to Greer, Porter or Sharper what he used to do to Jason David in the past. It's a whole different ball game now and the ball is in our 'court'!

I don't think we have to worry about this, especially based on what you said about them beating us in the dome for the last 5 years

They have the #1 pass defense in the league... until you realize that's since no one throws the ball on them. They're 24th in the league in passer rating (Saints are #1 in passer rating, #14 in pass defense because teams throw the ball 38 times a game)

The difference this year is that if Delhomme tries lofting the ball up to Smith in the middle of a bunch of Saints defenders, Sharper will have another pick 6.

They have a QB that throws 3 X as many picks as he does TDs, and their D can't tackle. They are a team in disarray.

I agree that Steve Smith, and probably most of the team, has lost confidence is Delhomme. He's just not the same. I would watch out, though. If Delhomme gets on track, they could still beat some good teams.

Not very good at all. The defense overall has played pretty well considering we're leading the league in turnovers and they are on the field most of the game and many times defending a short field. Special teams have been bad this season as well as we've given up a lot of yardage on punt returns and kickoffs.

Now to the offense. RB's have been good, very good considering they have face 8 men in the box constantly. Smith is facing double teams all the time since the passing game is terrible and the other wide receivers just aren't getting it done. Dwayne Jarrett has been a bust, you see flashes of taent but he's never consistent and I really wonder if he serious about being an NFL receiver. From the way Smitty busted him a couple years ago about his preparations on being a player it seems he's just happy cashing a check.

Now to Jake <sigh>. It's over. He's never been a great QB since day 1 but he's had more than his share of great moments (and low ones too). At one time the great moments far outnumbered the bad ones but those days are past now too. I'm not sure whether the surgery has affected his throwing motion or he's just reached an age for him that he just doesn't have it anymore. But whatever the reason he's more of a problem now than a solution and it's time to make a change. The problem is there really isn't anything to change to. McCown isn't that good otherwise he wouldn't have bounced all over the league. Moore may be a solid QB but who knows over a whole season.

I know you guys rag on Jake pretty bad here but he's been a good QB for the Panthers. He's a genuinely nice guy who plays his heart out every game. When he has a bad game he still stands up to the reporters and answers every question unlike a lot of players who head to the training room to duck any questions. He always accepts the blame when things aren't going well and doesn't throw his teammates under the bus if they've screwed up. He's a stand up guy who has made a nice career out of maximizing all his potential considering he isn't the most talented or skilled QB in the league. I have a lot of respect for those type of players. As much I've yelled "Dammit Jake" at the TV when he makes a boneheaded play I felt sorry for him yesterday when in the post-game interview he seemed broken as a player. Tough way to go out for a player in this league.

Fox will be looking for a job at seasons end I'm sure. I think the owner appreciates the fine seasons we've had under Fox but not being consistent is a killer in the NFL and Fox has produced consistentcy. The season is over as far as being a good team but I'll still be watching and cheering (and swearing a little more often I'm sure). Real fans ride it out when the bad times roll around in the hopes the good times aren't that far off. It could be worse though it could be the Rams that I had to root for

Charles Barkley has a word for it and it rhymes with gerbil.

When asked what he thought about the Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith Charles had this to say

I had to give you some rep for coming here and posting this. I do think Jake is probably done as I think he came back too early from his surgery and some people just are the same after surgeries, he could be one of them. I still think Steve Smith is a talented WR, but losing confidence in the QB and the fact that he's their only threat really limits what he can do. I think they might have held out hope for Jake a season or two too long and probably should've looked at bringing in his possible replacement. I do not think it will take long to rebound as maybe a change in coaches and a piece here and there starting at QB and WR2 and this could be a different Panthers team next season.

As for the Rams, I do not think they have the talent to compete right now, but I did read somewhere that the coaches were doing good and the players felt they were well coached, but just don't have the talent. This is another team that held onto it's QB too long and probably held onto Bruce and Holt too long, now they have to retool.
