I, like many others, want Deonte Harris to get more of a role on offense, especially with the lack of depth at receiver. I'm just curious how much fans think he will be involved, and what exactly his role is. I could definitely see him getting more touches on wide receiver sweeps, perhaps on an read option with Taysom. I could also see an effective deep threat. However, I do worry this weird off-season will prevent Harris to get more involved as quick as many would like. Anyway what do you all think?

It would be nice if he had a few nice plays early in the season and was a threat defenses had to spend time game planning for. I can see us trying a couple plays a game designed for him, but too many legit weapons on offense to go overboard trying to get him involved.

I'd also like to see him develop into a legit receiving threat, even at the WR3 level. He wasn't more involved as a WR last season because he needs more development and experience in terms of routes, timing, etc. I don't think running the full route tree or even half of it was part of his experience in college, certainly not at a pro level with the timing that a guy like Drew demands. We can only assume that Harris has been working hard on his routes and he certainly has a handful of guys who can mentor him in that regard. He'll definitely have an expanded role this season, but I don't think it's going to be a huge increase in volume. CSP will bring him along in increments like Taysom and, if he earns it, he'll get more and more opportunities as the season progresses.

One thing is certain -- we've never had this many guys who are so dangerous in the open field... and versatile. It's going to be a fun season!

I think it'll ultimately be up to him. Payton has shown that guys who prove they can make plays and are reliable will continue to get opportunities. I'm sure Harris will get a few opportunities here and there, and if he makes the most of them, more will come. I definitely think he's got worlds of potential. Just watching him in the return game lets you know how dangerous he is in open space. Ideally, it would be awesome if some of that talent could be utilized on offense.

I really really hope he develops into at least a 50% snap guy. Love his play making potential. He could be a household name.

I don’t think the coaching staff knew what they had in Harris last year until the season started. Now they know they have a dynamic playmaker, and he should be more involved in the offense. Like a lot more.

It's totally up to him. I know Payton likes him, and will give him every chance. He will be delighted to use him any way he can in the offense. If he produces, I think he could get as high as 6-8 snaps. If he's not productive, he will get a few token snaps. If he gets several snaps a game, many of them will come at Taysom's expense.

He’s just too small to hold up if he’s anything more than a return specialist and occasional gadget player.

He’s not even as big as TLL, and TLL is too small.

Yes, he has electric speed, and has a knack for making plays, but he just won’t hold up physically. He’s 3-4 inches shorter and 15lbs lighter than Tyreek Hill.

Yet we have a guy like TQ Smith who gets beat up badly whenever contacted. At 6’2 209. Kind of ironic, actually. I hear you, though. Harris is small, but runs fearlessly. If he could put on 20 lbs, he’d be the size of Sproles. I don’t think size will limit his opportunities, though, if he proves he is too good not to use.

He has a lot of talent, but I’m not sure it’s the kind of talent that translates to being a consistent WR. There’s a huge difference between returning punts and kicks and running routes and catching passes.

Someone mentioned Tyreek Hill. I can understand why that’s a desired comparison. Hill is phenomenal. Anything close to that would be the equivalent of hitting the jackpot.

Both are fast and smallish. Both are electric with the ball. Besides being a little taller and heavier, Hill has route running and receiving talent. if Harris would have displayed those abilities, he’d have been a sought after draft prospect. Could he develop that kind of ability? Sure, anything is possible. Possible and probable are two different things.

If being fast and about the same size as Tyreek was the path to getting that kind of production, you could pick from hundreds of guys with those credentials. It’s more than that though.

I see Harris as a gadget player. A guy who you have certain packages for, but I don’t see him as the full time productive WR type
