Assuming they are both starting, how many sacks do you think Junior and Tez will combine for?

I believe Tez will be playing ILB so I doubt many for him. If Gallete gets the start at ROLB, I think 10 is a pretty realistic number.

You think Tez will be a backup behind Hawthorne and Lofton? Interesting take I haven't seen yet.

Spencer and Ware combined for 22.5 sacks last season for comparison sake. I made the poll under the assumption that Junior was ROLB and Tez was at LOLB.

To be honest, I'm really not sure what's going to.happen with Hawthorne. I wouldn't be suprised if a 4-3 team would seek a trade for him. It's going to be up to Ryan. Whom ever he thinks is the better fit. I personally think Tez is a better fit inside. Have you seen tape of this guy on the playing MLB? Straight up animal in college. With a thumper in Lofton and a athletic guy like Tez to go sidelime to sideline, I would be pretty optimistic about our ILB's. I don't think Tez has any real pass rush moves besides pure speed.

Assuming they both start (which I think is a weak assumption), 10-15. Something like 7.5 and 6.5 or so. I doubt theyll both start however.

Martez at ILB makes some sense. It wouldnt be behind Hawthorne and Lofton but rather Vilma and Lofton. Payton has already alluded that he thinks Vilma will start and, however limited Vilma is physically now, his intelligence and ability to get the defense lined up properly and set is critical.

Every time our defense has been without Vilma it has suffered an overall drop in performance, and while we fixate on Vilmas missed plays, I do believe the overall drop in defensive performance without Vilma is more than just correlation. With us set to run multiple formations/lineups with multiple responsibilities, his "field general" status will be even more critical this first season under Ryan.

That said, while Wilson may be better suited for ILB, I dont think he ends up there. As mentioned, with Hawthorne, Vilma, and Lofton it's pretty crowded. Wilson may end up there in 2014, but not this coming season I dont believe. At least, not primarily (you would assume Ryan will move all the players around quite a bit).

Yeah I think we may end up moving Hawthorne for whatever we can get. Before anyone gets too excited, itll probably be after the draft and into preseason and probably be for some conditional low draft pick in 2014.

I think right now Hawthorne is a better player than Tez, but if you can unload him, get a draft pick, free up cap space, and still have a player with a higher ceiling, I say you do it. On a side note, I just can't see Ryan bringing in his system without even one LB that's ever played in a 34 D. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out

I voted 20-25. I think Junior is a star in the making. I've watched a lot of pass rushers and he has such a great first step combined with a very good arsenal of pass rushing moves.

I think Junior can get between 12-15 sacks assuming the team does well and we are winning games which means we are leading late.

If Junior goes off then it will leave a lot of chances for Martez. They combined for 9 sacks last seasons with about half the defensive snaps that Cam Jordan got by himself. They are both better suited for a 34 and playing on a more aggressive defense next season then I think 20-25 is a realistic number assuming they both start, stay healthy and the team as a whole plays well.

The responsibilities hes going to ask players to take will be fairly Greg Williams like. I don't think he'll have much trouble.

People talk about how complicated Ryan and GWs defenses are, but in reality the complexity is front-ended. You have a lot of formations, lot of "looks". Players get asked to do weird things outside of their comfort zones a lot of times. But since it's an aggressive attacking defense, responsibilities during the play tend to be fairly straightforward. It lets the players play fast, which is the point.

Spags defense, by contrast, sure the looks and positions were pretty consistent, sure you were generally playing the same position with the same responsibilities over and over, but it was a lot of read & react stuff. Each player was responsible for a lot of different things depending on the play, requiring you to diagnosis and remember what you're supposed to do in a myriad of situations and still react.

I think this played a big part in the poor tackling, blown coverages, etc.

Which means I don't think there's a strong need to get specific players who have experience in 3-4 lineups so much as the onus is on getting smart players who can get lined up quickly, who know what the substitutions are, who can digest multiple looks.

Ryan may bring in a couple of former scrub players of his to help onfield coach for him, an old Bill Parcells practice, but I think the onus is mostly going to be on smart players who can digest whats going on quickly and help get substitutions in on the sideline, help get guys lined up on the field, etc. Which is why I think Vilma is destined to be end up starting another year.

Wilson should play at MIKE. I think that he and Vilma would be a nice tandem. Won't have a significant role in run defense and can just focus on rushing the passer and dropping into zone coverage. I think that he could get 5-7 sacks from ILB...that is where he did all of his damage when GW went to primarily 3-4 late in 2011.

If Galette is starting anything less than 10 would probably mean that we will be looking for a starting WOLB in 2013. I think that he is a 8-12 sack guy. Doesn't have great closing speed, so will get more pressures than sacks. If the Saints draft a guy like Ansah...Ansah and Galette would play the same position.

im not so sure about that stat. that would mean Tez got 5 sacks, and i dont think that's the case
