Saints take over 2nd seed in the NFC due to some big games today

chicago falls to 9-2 after losing to patriots
They are the #1 seed

New Orleans goes to 7-4 and takes over the 2nd seed and the division lead

Dallas is third they are 7-4, but their record vs the NFC is 5-3

Seattle is fourth with a record of 6-4, but they play the packers monday, but their record vs the NFC is 5-3, so if they win we will still be in front

Carolina and the Giants both lose a game today and fall to 6-5 overall, that makes Carolina 4-4 vs the NFC, and the Giants are 5-2 vs the NFC

the 49ers lost to the Rams so they are both 4-4 vs the NFC and 5-6 overall

and then atlanta is 5-6 overall with a record of 3-4

Everyone who need to lose to help the saints lost today so far... Pull for the colts tonight to beat the Eagles... and the Packers to beat seattle on monday and then it would be a perfect weekend for the saints

The game in two weeks at Dallas will be enormous - biggest Saints game in years in terms of significance (notwithstanding the reopening of the Superdome on 9/25).

Of course, this Sunday's game against SF won't be a cakewalk. The Niners are pretty tough.

The one thing we REALLY need is the Saints to win the rest of their games. As for me, I not only want the playoffs, but, home field advantage. And I know the rest of you all want that, as well, but, this last stretch isn't easy. We can watch other teams all we want, but, the bottom line, is we really do need the Saints to win the rest of their games.

Yea and this same system cost us a playoff spot vs the Lambs two years ago. It needs to be adjusted to say "In no uncertain terms can a team go to the playoffs with the same record if you BEAT THEM HEADS UP NO QUESTION."

But then again we wouldn't be here now had we gone to the playoffs that year.

Of course the way we were playing we may have made some noise in the playoffs.

But you know Haslett would have coached us to a Loss of unprecendented.........

You know.

threw me for a loop when it happened also, but actually might help us this year with all our NFC wins.

I'm still a one game at at timer though. Lots of tough games ahead.

All 5 remaining games will be enormous. The Saints cannot take any team for granted because they will get stomped. "Any Given Sunday"!!!!!

That's great, but if you have a 3+ team tie what do you do? Do you have a better suggestion if teams haven't all played each other, etc?

exactly...if it had just been us and the rams, then we would have gone to the playoffs because the first tiebreaker IS HEAD TO HEAD...however, if you have more than 2 teams, and haven't all played each other, then what can you do....the record versus your own conference seems as good as any

Yeah. Now, can Eagles pull it together enough to beat Panthers?

The dallas game will be big. the only thing we have going for us is the fact that Payton and company know Romo and hopefully know how to game plan against him.

Like you said though, we can't look past this sunday's game against SF. One game at a time and we will handle our part. If we keep winning we control our own destiny.
