CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela's socialist leader Hugo Chavez said on Sunday that U.S. President Barack Obama had done nothing beyond wishful thinking to earn the Nobel Peace Prize.

Chavez, who has mixed praise for Obama personally with criticism of his government's "imperialist" policies, said he thought it was a mistake when he read the U.S. leader had won.

"What has Obama done to deserve this prize? The jury put store on his hope for a nuclear arms-free world, forgetting his role in perpetuating his battalions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and his decision to install new military bases in Colombia," Chavez wrote in a column.

"For the first time, we are witnessing an award with the nominee having done nothing to deserve it: rewarding someone for a wish that is very far from becoming reality."

I hate having to agree with chavez, but.......

Then don't agree with him. The other thread has hashed this out pretty well. The committee gave the award to put momentum behind Obama's campaign pledges and proposals. More an award for his vision.

Also, who gives a damn about the friggin Nobel Peace Prize anyhow?

Boy -- glad this thread was started -- I didnt get enough of the debate in the original thread -- bottom line is that there are many that agree with him getting it and many that dont -- crosses all lines in the international community - he won -- doesnt matter if he deserved it or not --

I care! I care so deeply about the Nobel peace prize that I am willing to read and post in threads about it. Im also not afraid to agree with somebody when they are right and disagree with them when they are wrong. No matter who they are.

Adolf Hitler: The sky is blue.

Me: Yes Hitler the sky IS blue. That thing you did with the Jews and gypsies and homosexuals though, not cool man, not cool at all. . But the sky is indeed blue, good point on the sky color.

See? Easy peasy. Agree with people when they are right, disagree with them when they stray from right. Its just plain easier to keep your head screwed on straight thataway.

Chavez was one of his biggest supporters. I hope Castro and Ahmadinejad don't bail on him.

But the sky isnt always blue -- sometimes its grey -- sometimes its dark out -- and I am sure that there will be many scientists that bring up that its not really a color -- it all depends on the reflection of the light or soemthing -- so there are still all sorts of great arguments that can start over agreeing to something that seems so easy --

Its always blue when the sun is shining. And the sun's always shimig when I smile.:hihi:

I bet we see an epidemic of conservatives having seizures trying to figure out which position to take now...

Well if Chavez said, then by golly, it must be true. I mean this guy loves America and would never say anything negative unless it was the unfortunate truth.

I'm too damn lazy to research something that I'm so apathetic about, but I just knew that Obama wasn't the first to be given the NPP for works yet to be accomplished.
