Who backs up Strief if he goes down against the Jets? Not a good feeling about Brees blind side... I see this as our only weakness this week, but its potentially huge.

i totally agree. i think its too late to sign a left tackle for this weeks game b/c they have to practice with the line and such, but i def. think we need to sign a vet LT for the year just to be safe.

I would expect Rex Ryan to recognize this as our weakness and focus on getting to Brees' blind side through this avenue. It worries me because it could lead to sacks AND turnovers.

However, I'm sure Peyton is well aware and will keep a tight end on the left or use the tailback to help with protection.

I thought we just signed a guy? A former Ram/Falcon right?

I'm sure someone is practicing as the backup LT this week (Nesbit?) and they are making contingency plans if he has to play (using a TE, fb etc..)..

I think, jut like lats year when we held "audition" for the kicking job during the bye, we're going to look at who's available next week.

I thought Payton would make a move to sign a veteran backup just in case. There isn't a lot available.

Per NFL.com: (I don't know how reliable this is because they have Zach Strief as unsigned)

Wayne Gandy
Jonas Jennings
Levi Jones
Jon Runyan
Mark Tauscher

Bushrod is hurt? Or benched?

I saw an interview with Bushrod yesterday. He was walking around with a hard boot. He said he aggravated some ligament damage in his ankle (first occurred against the Lions). He seemed to think he was going to be out for a couple of weeks.

Signed him to the practice squad. He may be brought up for this game only as a backup to the backup if Bushrod is out.

I still wouldn't be surprised to see Bushrod active but not the starter if he's not 100%.

Strief has proven to be better then Bushrod at this point based on their total bodies of work over their careers so far.

So I don't think we are losing anything. The only real worry is if Strief is hurt, in which case then it would be time to panic.

Knowning Payton though, he'd figure something out and I'm actually confident our D can help carry us if our offensive production drops some.
