I Have Never Like the Way Payton's Teams Have Run (1 Viewer)

But Deuce only had one full season with a competent field general handing him the football, too.
Absolute baloney. Duece was great and was better with Brooks then with Brees.

Deuce was great even after the first ACL but he was on/off by week in 2006 depending on how the knee felt. By the playoffs and particularly the NFCCG Deuce couldn't carry the load.

But yes, his best years were with Haslett/Brooks. We ran the ball well in those days and I would argue we had a better overall OL except for the period where Haslett stuck Daryl Terrell in (a backup G) at T.

Payton's scheme has never run the ball as consistently well as we did in the Haslett years. Some mix of consistency of talent and emphasis in the scheme and mindset of the coach.

The problem with the running game is the poor play of the offensive line of late. Outside of Armstead and Unger, the line is slow, unathletic and miss crucial blocks.

Pretty simple.
