I know this is bad board etiquette , but can't help myself. (1 Viewer)

This may be true. But this is the first time SP committed to that kind of player when they signed Sherels. So maybe this kid is so impressive & they really want to see him be a solid returner by day one & that's possibly why he's not getting any WR work. Plus if he does get a spot, that makes the other decisions in a very crowded position that much more difficult to make, meaning if they already think the is gonna make it as a returner & they might have plans down the road for him as a specialty player, why waste that time now, when they have to give other guys as much time at their positions as possible.
One thing's for certain. If Harris is the only returner we see for most of the game Saturday, It's a pretty sure bet he will be returning punts & kicks opening day. I think this guy is a way better version of Michael Lewis. He's fearless & that makes him dangerous for any defense anywhere. If his hands are as good as a receiver as they are as a returner, they'll find a place for him in this offense.

Whoa!!! I'm not ready to put him above the beerman!

But to your point, It looks to me like they're only thinking of Harris as a RS at this point, and Grayson as an offensive joker weapon.
Unless Harris just happens to somehow be that guy we all have pegged for the 53 that gets waived causing a whodat-land meltdown... He's going to be our return man. Now once he's on the team, he will undoubtedly get coached up to play offense, at least to some degree.

He was brought in to return kicks and hopefully replace TommyLee Lewis IMO he has already done both and easily surpassed expectations.

He was brought in as insurance and also to share preseason return looks etc... with Marcus Sherels. With Sherels being shelved most of the offseason and all of preseason... Harris has seized his opportunity.

I don't recall saying he was above the Beer man. But speaking of the beer man, I remember the first time I saw that guy, I knew he had what it took to play in the league. But it only took Halett 3 years to let him earn a spot on the team. But his biggest problem was he was straight from the street like Vince Papalli. This kid is a polished very accomplished specialist & he was evidently pretty good at the receiver position as well posting the numbers he posted.

Thanks for the thread, KB! Ive been bringing up n posting on Harris for some time now. I knew about all his stats, even as as a WR, in college. But make no mistake, the Saints brought him in as a PR/KR. I had some doubt about him earlier, mainly because he was injured. But once he got in, he’s played very well!

STs is still a big part of the Pro game. And face it, we haven’t had a legit returner in YEARS! This upcoming game will be HUGE for Harris. IF he can continue to do well at BOTH again this week, IMO, he makes the 53!

Yeah, he's definitely passed the “eye test” so far. He looks calm and smooth, esp when catching punts. He’s got good vision, and anticipates his blocking well. He knows HOW to run!

I like his speed (4.47 forty). But man, he’s also got that “gear”! And when he hits it, you can actually see it!

Well here's the thing about it. He's got good speed, but his moves in pads, like Kamara's you can't put a clock on it. If you're like me you can only sit there in amazement & wonder how in the hell did he just do that? I mean Doesn't Kamara remind any old folk of Terry Metcalf? And the one thing I noticed was Harris's hands. Soft hands to let the ball in & still be able to continue your move is a vital incalculable stat. Only the great players have it. Thomas has it. Kamara has it. The greats of the past had it. Thomas, Dalton, Sproles all had it. And this kid has it as well. He reminds me of a hybrid between Cooks & Sproles.

AK was coaching him up a bit on return techniques yesterday at practice, he was getting a lot of the punts.
