I want a fast front 7 (1 Viewer)

We already have that somewhat. It's part of why our defense has been much better the last two years. Jordan is very fast for his size, Davenport ran a blistering 4.58 for DE, and Davis is shot out of a cannon every play.

We really just need one more sideline to sideline LB and to not have everyone else get injured. That used to be Anzalone but he's living up to his college rep of being made of glass.

There's something to be said about the big burly guys though - they're harder to move off the spot in the run game. I like the front 7 how they are, but I agree we need at least one very quick and agile sack specialist at either DE or OLB.

Agree.

Davenport’s injury scares me though. It’s staggering how different our defense was when he went down.

If he’s healthy, I think it’s a good start. Maybe add an LB as you said and another DL. But if he’s not, that’s an enormous difference.

Front 7 is a bigger priority than people think.

Linebacker group has been an issue all season. Anzalone 2 of his 3 seasons have ended with shoulder injuries, Kiko has now suffered his 3rd career ACL injury and his option will probably not be picked up next season, Klein gave us a solid effort but he's a downhill player who gets by with film study.. not a sideline to sideline guy who will keep up with the faster backs and tight ends. There should be Zero games next season where the Saints need to start Craig Robertson, Stephone Anthony, or sign Manti Teo off the streets at this position group; and although I hope they re-sign AJ Klein it will be as a back-up, for quality depth.

Imagine if Demario had a MIKE backer like Luke Keuchly or Fred Warner playing next to him?

3-tech is a huge weakness, what was lacking down the stretch was pressure from the Interior.

Rankins is now coming off his 2nd major Foot injury, I don't know if he'll ever get his first step quickness back at this point.

Onyemetta - I don't even know that he's back next season, 1 dimensional player IMO who can be great against the run, but rarely ever gets a push up the middle.. where was he when Rankins went down? He was outplayed by an UDFA in Tuttle 2nd half of the season.

Even with Davenport back we don't have a speed, rusher who can dip his hips and bend around the edge.. both Dav, and Cam are power, bull rush guys who set up outside to go back with strong inside moves. If you acquire a true speed rusher who could bend around Tackles, (similar to a Dee Ford, or Danielle Hunter type player) that would enable you to move Dav, or Cam on the inside and get mismatches in 3rd down situations.

Bingo to all of the above. Wouldn’t it be great to get the type of defense that just shut people down. Heck I’d take one that could stop third and longs occasionally,

I just want a healthy front 7. Jordan, Rankins, Brown, Davenport, Alonso, Anzalone and Davis. That's pretty stout. Add in some solid depth. Our problem has been finishing a season with those guys still playing.

Jordan runs a 4.6 Davenport 4.5 it doesn’t get any better than that But that’s it

I wouldn’t mind Shifting Cam inside to DT I think he would be unstoppable rather permant or just on rushing downs sign a FA or Draft a DE say a Front 4 of Davenport, Jordan,Rankins, Clowney or another free agent that would be scary

Anazolone - 4.5
Davis didn’t run fast but dudes a baller

I want a speedy 4.4 -4.3 Guy at Lb also

It's hard to say how good we can be defensively because the injury bug is always floating around. I think we have a very good base and depth but now we are starting to run into money and contracts as well so we really have to decide who we want to pay, who we want to develop, and who we want to move away from.

DE: Jordan: is everything we could have hoped for and more
DT: Brown: played well, under contract, looking for improvement in year two
DT: Rankins: Health, not sure his contract info, but we need him healthy
DT: Oneymata: I think he's probably gone in free agency unless he comes back cheap
DT: Stallworth & Tuttle: Both very young and great rotation guys think we could use a another rotational player
DE: Davenport: Health, besides that kid can be animal, amazing burst, can only get better if he can stay on the field

DE: Granderson and Hendrickson: add youth and depth, I think Hendrickson as kind of plateaued, but I think the Granderson has potentional to be more than just a rotational guy
DE/DT: Edwards Jr., thought we would see more of him, looked good in spurts but guys but give you a guy that can play either or.

Linebackers: Davis is a beast, one of the best F/A we have ever signed on D
Klein: Contract is up, played really well down the stretch but I feel he's at a point where is best days are behind him & his looking to cash in one more time.
Kiko: has a pretty heavy cap hit and will be coming off his 3rd ACL tear, sucks because he plays the run very well
Anazalone: Think hes very talented but he can't stay on the field and at this point can't bet on him playing a whole season

I think we look at resigning Klein if the money makes sense, Ireland has done great at finding talent in all rounds of the draft can total see us taking a LB at some point.
The DL I think we find value free agents... If we can keep the same 11 guys on the field most of the season I think we can be a borderline Top 10 Defense in the league.

Good summary of where we stand. The team also made an under the radar late signing to the practice squad who is now on a futures contract in Jalen Dalton. If Neilson can develop him, he might be another rotational piece or more depending on development. Similar to Tuttle, Dalton was a 4 star highly ranked recruit, but he had an injury filled career at UNC. He's big at 6'6" 300lbs and athletic. I'm interested to see if the coaches can develop him as they have the other defensive linemen, especially the undrafted guys like Tuttle and Granderson.

I don’t think Alonso will be back. Third major knee injury. High motor guy but still not the speedy LB that we need. Just not sold on Anzalone and with his injury history, is not likely to ever make it through a season. We need another sideline to sideline LB to pair with Davis. Stop those outside runs that killed us all season

The Saints need to add a pure speed rusher on the Edge. That is an element that has been missing.
A speedy coverage LB is also a must... but as others have mentioned, that has been a need for multiple years. Anzalone cannot be counted on, and Kiko is is trending down and coming off a 3rd ACL.
I still some hope for Kaden Elliss, but it’s never good to start your career off with a season ending knee injury.

We have good defensive players bad thing is they don’t get dinged they get IRed

wouldn’t hurt my feelings, if we don’t draft Barrow lol, is using our 1st round on ILB unless BPA was a position of need
