...it might be better to say that NFL.com is stirring the pot about a non-issue.

Payton hasn't been shy about his openness toward landing on the West Coast (his daughter lives in California), and there was plenty of interest last year in possible openings with the 49ers or Chargers, as well as the Colts.

Payton ended up staying in New Orleans for a salary near $10 million per year. Now he could leave just one year into the deal -- and the Saints may allow him to do it.
...and also this zinger:
Payton has been with the Saints since 2006 and won a Super Bowl. But a decade is a long time with one team -- too long in the eyes of some. With the rebuild almost complete and one more year of Brees, it would seemingly be a good time for all to transition.
Could Sean Payton leave Saints to be L.A. Rams' coach? - NFL.com

To put things in context, Sean Payton (minus the 2012 season where the NFL banned him from the Saints' sidelines) has a 93-61 record (.656 win pct., including playoff record) with the Saints. That's a 9-6 record (average) over the past 10 seasons. Payton has outlasted all other coaches in the NFC South... by far! And despite a rash of injuries and salary cap hell (Junior Galette & others) is not mailing it in as head coach.

I'd like to see what he has left with cap relief next season, and a healthier roster.

Ian Rappaport's next story that contains accurate speculation about Sean Payton or the Saints will be his first. I'm convinced that Payton has someone feeding him false information on purpose at this point.

Given Payton's hefty salary, and considering the frustration with another year of "will he or won't he" speculation, members of the organization are said to be tiring of it all. Morale is lower than it has been in the past, and uncertainty over Payton's future is one reason why.
The only person that seems to be uncertain on his future is Ian Rapoport.

Also, I've never seen salary become an issue just a few months after signing an extension.

Now he's saying Rob Rivera is a candidate for the LA job because of a "large Hispanic population" in Los Angeles.

This coming from the same man that said we were trading Brees to Jets? This guy is so full of himself.

I think it would bee a good fit. The Rams already have a defense and have a young teachable QB.

I don't think that Payton is safe. He was pretty close to losing his job last year...and I don't think that 2016 changes anything. But I still think he has value for trade. I'll be asking for a 1st or Robert Quinn.

And his son who plays football lives in Dallas... Why do we need these made up garbage stories? :covri:

Loved what Payton has done for us. However, if he really wants to leave and we can get something for it, I would be fine with it. He was by far the best coach we have ever had, but it might be time to get a "new Payton" who is hungry and wants to show the world what he can do.

Oh and fire the ST coach now.

Merry Christmas everyone!

They act like his daughter is some helpless 14 year old girl.

Why would his daughter who is a grown *** 20 something year old woman, who clearly wants to be independent, want her dad moving near her? That's a non-factor.

Please point out one thing except fan or "insider" speculation that shows he was close to being let go. I.E. A quote from someone within the Saints higher than Payton (Loomis through Benson).
