I have reservations considering what happened two years ago and exactly how low Tennesee would go in terms of compensation. Anything besides 1 first round pick is too much considering his age, our future, and the fact we can grab someone 4-5 years younger for probably a first and third.
Haynesworth is only 26.
The problem is not the compensation as far as draft picks go... Haynesworth is a bonified stud DT that performs every down, unlike some of the recently traded DT's that got big contracts like Shaun Rogers. He is worth a high pick. The only reason Tennessee would consider trading Haynesworth is due to what has happened in FA with the crazy money being thrown at DT's.
If Shaun Rogers gets a $42 million dollar contract with $20 million guaranteed what is Haynesworth going to command next year? Certainly he will want more than Rogers and Williams received as he is definitely a better player. If Tennessee is not going to put up those big $$$ then they need to trade him while they can. But it is going to take a huge chunk to sign him, and if you trade for him you will want to make sure you can sign him to a long term deal first.
If we trade for Haynesworth, we might as well trade Will Smith in the deal because signing Haynesworth would prohibit the Saints from signing Will Smith as well. That is way too much money for the D Line. However, Haynesworth is the top at his position.
I have to admit, I would literally cut a backflip if the Saints were to land Haynesworth. He's as good as it gets in this league at the DT position. It would certainly conjure up dreams of a superbowl in my mind, even if we don't have a great secondary.
But it is likely going to take a 1st rounder, or a 2nd this year and next, plus what one would think would be a deal with at least $22 million in guaranteed money to get it done.
I would consider it. Maybe take the brunt of the cap hit this season while there is a lot of room.
As for the helmet incident. I like 'em a little mean, myself. Reports are that AH has been very remorseful over the incident and has done a lot of good things to improve his image since.
One thing is if you pay the man, you now have to pay next year, Will Smith, Colston, Evans, and Vilma. Part of me thinks we trade Grant if we get Haynesworth simply becuase i think smith is better. It will put us in the titans boat. this scenero could cost us only this years 1st but losing this years 2nd and next years and possible a player for our roster is suicide.
