Idris Elba to be the next Bond? (1 Viewer)

You've never seen ANY? That's crazy. I read all the books as a kid.

That said, I am on board with Elba as Bond. I think he will kill it.

I know. I need to try em out. I’m finally getting around to watching some of the MI movies and loved the Kingsman. (I know that one is considered pretty different than the other two franchises)

i saw that tweet this morning - that'd be awesome
i think it would keep a bit of Craig's tortured past characterization - pretty much what he does in Luther
but of course it would have to have some Stringer Bell cuz Stringer Bell

@whodat25
Daniel Craig bonds (well, first one) are a must
the other are good as stops when you're clicking through channels and they pop up on TBS

I'm sure he's a great actor and would play an action spy role very well, but Bond? No, I'm not a fan of re-inventing long standing characters. I would rather see him as 009, let him make his own way with a character of his own. The idea that this can only work if we cast him in a familiar white guy role, is patronizing.

fictional characters reflect present day culture and society - -they're not history lessons
shouldn't Marvel characters' origin stories change in regard to current scientific understanding (the original science of hulk & spiderman don't rally make sense today -- superman shouldn't change after we sent rockets into space??)
benedict cumberbatch should not play Sherlock holmes in a modern setting?

if one is a fan of the original telling of a story, the original story is still available to enjoy
saying that others should n=only tell/experience the story the way you did is get off my lawn on a whole 'nothher level

Guys I always heard Connery was a good Bond. Do you all agree?

Connery was the best Bond by far. For me, Timothy Dalton comes in second despite the fact that only the first of his two film stint is good (the second one is a mess). Craig comes in third for me. Roger Moore is a distant fourth, and Brosnan should never have happened. He didn't understand the character at all, and every Bond film featuring him almost comes across as a parody. Heck, even the wooden George Lazenby was better than Brosnan.

great actor. he will nail it. he’s badass.

i don’t give a sheet what he plays. his performance on the wire earns him everything he will ever desire.

Daniel Craig in Casino Royal is more Jason Bourne, less James Bond.
that's actually not a bad take, but that's tangential to the point i was trying to make with Jeff Miller -
post-Jason Borne would we be ok with a bond who lounged and posed and deployed 1-2 cool Q spy pieces and 1 or 2 minor action pieces?
contemporary action audiences are used to 3 major action set pieces - of course the producer would want to present that

no they shouldn't, and they haven't. here's an idea, instead of re-treading stories from the past, write some new compelling and entertaining material for good actors to use.
