I think he means that if the Saints are winning 100000 - 0 and Coach goes to get one of those 3D soda collector cups and a box of nachos, and on his way back, the Titans mascot crashes through the SuperDome and runs him over with a golfcart, who then would call the rest of the game.

We sort of use the force and trust Turf to make Brees "feel" the right plays to call.

I suspect he (the original poster) is right, they would just let Brees call his own plays at the line. Probably just go to a no huddle similiar to what Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer occasionally do where they get up to the line of scrimmage like it's no huddle but still don't snap it until 10-15 seconds on the play clock (to still maintan time of possession).

Does anyone know if Drew has full authority to change plays at the line of scrimmage, based on what he sees with the Defense? I know some QBs do and some don't.

Cheers to you, SuperKid, for not starting a new thread. More people should exercise your good judgment. I'm not sure you'll get the answers you want here, due to the absurdity of the original post.

Now, in answer to your question, I imagine that Drew has a good level of independence, just due to Coach Payton's confidence in him.
