Before you pull your flame throwers out over your man love for Brees, take a moment to think about it.

Who were the QBs to get injured this year? This is just from off the top of my head and quickly looking at the fantasy football roster on Yahoo.

Here's my point: Drew is not invincible, and if he goes down our season is LOST.

Don't get me wrong as I love Brees and I'm still in shock we got him, but he isn't getting any younger. We still don't have a young guy any of you can say, "I trust he'll be a starter one day."

Brees is 32 tomorrow according to wikipedia, and he is at the pinnacle of his career physically and mentally at this point. His health will go down hill from here on out, however.

Should the unthinkable happen, would you not want a competent backup that has competed and been coached up by our QB department?

Some of you will say we should take a pass rusher or DT, but that player will not have the impact of a coached up Locker in the worst case scenario.

On the other hand, if Brees doesn't get injured within the next four years who's to say we don't trade a Sean Payton/Drew Brees tutored Locker for two first round picks? Then we go out and grab another one in the draft! It's a win-win to me.

Here's your food for thought:

Brees - played through an MCL injury
Kevin Kolb - concussion; caused him to lose his job; highly touted in preseason
Romo - IR clavical injury ruined their season
Vick - rib injury; missed 4 games and most of another
Favre - played through injuries the entire year
Rodgers - concussion; missed 1 game part of another?
Mathew Stafford - IR shoulder injury; missed 13 games
Mark Sanchez - shoulder injury

Vince Young - IR
Matt Moore - IR; started the year #1 on the depth chart
Jake Delhomme - foot problems
Tarvaris Jackson - IR
Bruce Gradkowski - IR
Max Hall - IR
Chad Pennington - IR (doesn't really count)

I'm posting this because on Mike and Mike this morning, Locker was the fourth ranked QB on Kiper's board and ranked 24 also known as the Saint's pick. Not to say Kiper can see the future, but I found it interesting just because of the rank of 24.

If I thought Locker was actually a decent pro prospect, that would be fine. But he's come up awful small in some big games over his career, and to me that's a huge indication of how he'd play on Sundays.

Every year, we look at bringing in new talent at the QB position, for depth, and perhaps to build value into a developing prospect that somebody might be suckered into giving up some high picks for. It's just smart business to approach it that way, and I think it's way too early to be looking for the Aaron Rodgers of the future.

As high of a draft pick as we would have to use, I'll pass. We have more pressing needs.

As long a Loomis and Payton are doing the picking, I'll feel good.

The Aaron Rodgers of the past was selected 24th overall, FWIW.

You don't pay your starter 20 million and sign a 10 million dollar back up

To have the type QB as Brees is you can only afford a project type QB

The idea has a scoush of merit. If the NFL really does switch to an 18 game season...do we really want Brees out there for that long? We barely through a 16 gamer with out injuries and there are rumors that he played hurt for much of the season.

HOWEVER. I think Chase Daniel is good enough to play if we have to sit Brees in an effort to preserve him for a the playoffs.

So...I'd rather we focus on our front seven on D, a running back, and another OT.

There will be literally years of discussion about how the Saints transition from the Brees era. I guess if you want to throw the first discussion over the bow at least a couple of years early then that's well within your right.

I have enough faith in Chase to not have to a pay a backup first round money.

Good point.

Although with this rookie wage scale, it's yet to be seen how that will flush out.

If the Saints selected Locker, I would feel EXTREMELY UPSET!!!:cussing:

I get yourpoint regarding getting a QB behind Brees as he is on the wrong side of his 30's and we don't have a proven QB behind him that can save the season, but I think we need to invest our high draft picks on our front 7 on defense. We need a pass rusher, DT, OLB , much more than a QB, IMO. ALex Brown, Will Smith, Scott Shanle are also in their 30's. It's time to get younger and more athletic now in those spots. Not to mention how thin we are at DT in regards to depth. I think we are at least another 2 years away before we start thinking of grooming our QB of the future. And I am not that high on Locker anyway.

If the Goodell goes to the podium and announces, "With the 24th pick in the 2011 draft, the New Orleans Saints select _____(Pick a college QB)
