If the Super Bowl was being played in New York tomorrow. (1 Viewer)

Unless the weather is totally out of season next year, I think this cold weather open stadium experiment will be a one year trial.

Don't count on that. While not exactly cold I bet SF gets the next one up for bid (2015) since their new stadium will be done by the time it is played. MN could get the 2016 superbowl after that.

I know everyone down in LA is mad about a cold weather Super Bowl, but I really hope it's goes well

A successful Super Bowl in New York means other northern venues will get an opportunity to host in the coming years

Places like Pittsburgh and Cleveland that have 2 of the longest running franchises and most storied histories will get a chance to bid for Super Bowls....it gets really old seeing a Super Bowl in NO every 3 years when I know Cleveland hasn't even had 1

Its not "old" for us.

Its not the cold that would be bothersome...its the chance that you lose the ability to attend the game if there is a heavy snow leading up to the big game. Especially in New York, since the stadium is located in East Rutheford NJ. The whole purpose for the massive Super Bowl experience is for the "experience" of the week leading up to the game. IF you start taking away from that experience with bitter cold, rain/sleet/snow, inability to attend various events because of that, then you reduce the Super Bowl to the game alone. NFL has ZERO interest in doing that.

I will say that Cleveland is a bit more like NO in that stadium is in the City ( from what I remember wehn we went in 2006 for the opener ) We parked on West 3rd St and walked not 4 blocks to get to the stadium. That was fun. ( and a bit of a gauntlet lol )

NY will be way better then any other cold weather city. It's a tourist Mecca with plenty of things to do. Its the only cold weather city that might pull it off. Try it in Pittsburg or Philly and you have a real mess.

It's a pleasant day here today. There's a dusting of snow on the ground and the temperatures are in the 30s with no wind. The stadium isn't that far from the city, about a 30min drive (except in traffic). The Super Bowl here is going to be amazing. Most people will be visiting Manhattan where there is no shortage of things to do and sites to see and then moving on to NJ for game day.

Personally, I love outdoor games. I think football is meant to be played in the elements. That's why football is for grownups and baseball is for children. :ezbill: I know I won't win any brownie points here, but I always hoped the Saints would one day have an open air stadium or at least a retractable roof. That said, the pictures of the dome from this weekend are gorgeous.

Those divas wont get out there in that weather. I seriously doubt Beyonce will be at that half time show

Thats not bad weather.....I would love to see the BCS title game played in Camp Randall stadium. Judging by this board that would be dastardly.

HaHa - Fans from the North think wind chills below 0 with driving snow and sleet are Real Football.

Isn't the new stadium still out in the swamps of NJ? I used to work up there and the Meadowlands Sports Complex didn't strike me as a place I would want to hang out for more than a tailgate and game. Sure they can add a NFL Experience pavilion out there but at the end of the day you are hanging out in sub-burbia in a parking lot...at least 45 mints back over to NYC. Not impressed at all.

Edit: Yes it is what I thought. MetLife Stadium is adjacent to where the old Giants Stadium was. Maybe this link will work. It will be fine for a game even if it snows 3' but as a fan that will be about like a regular season game. Not a SB experience. Even if they get 70 degree weather for a week what are you going to do? Nothing unless you trek back to NYC.

I would think Cleveland would be a better cold weather setup in terms of logistics to the actual City.

The experience for the people coming in to the see the Super Bowl?

Well New Orleans gets a lot of money locally from Mardi gras and the Super Bowl....Cleveland and Pittsburgh don't get that income so there may not be a party every night but that shouldn't stop them from having the opportunity to host

They are 2 great cities that represent hard working Americans and while there may not be a New Orleans level of entertainment, if you can't find something to do while you're there, it's your own fault

Cleveland has been rebuilding over the past few years. There is a huge casino and an aquarium....there are bars and clubs galore.

There may be less of a chance for certain people to make the trip there....but it will open up opportunities to an entirely new crop of people...don't forget that there actually are people that live in the northern states too

Nope, when you live in places like I do, you know that there is a point when you realize that your best bet on friday evening is to have everything ready for not leaving home until monday morning.

There is weather, and there is cold weather.

I love going to the stadium, but I won't go to the Als games after September. And btw, snowy-cold football is not better, and sometimes, you can't even see the game. Nonsense!

fans from the south think that blistering heat and air conditioned domes are "real" football

the elements are part of football tho and when you take them out of the game, you change the way its played

if a team like baltimore and cleveland are built to play in cold weather and rainy conditions, they have less of a chance to win in a dome against a team that is built to throw the ball all over the field and spread the defenses out

its common sense here

obviously fans dont like getting hit in the face with 30mph winds, but thats not the norm in any city and that shouldnt deter stadiums, cities, and other fans from getting the opportunity to host just because a bunch of rich cry babies dont like when its cold

Well considering we haven't hosted one in 11 years I think we're due.

They can host it on the moon for all I care. The only time I would want to go is if the Saints were in it, and even then I am probably to broke to afford it. 95% (a stat I just made up right now, I bet the number is higher) of NFL fans will probably never attend a Superbowl. I personally don't mind watching football in the elements. The conditions are the same for both teams, and its out of the ordinary to see a "Snow" bowl. I would not mind one bit if it snowed for next years game and I am not even gonna pretend to care if the people attending it are cold for the game or the week leading up to it.

New York is one of the greatest cities in the world and it's pretty awesome to be able to live here, but even so I wouldn't want a Super Bowl played here unless it was in March. A cold weather Super Bowl just isn't that great of an idea due to the fact that it could end up being the Patriots playing against the Cardinals or the Packers playing the Dolphins for instance; that's not a fair for a Super Bowl weather-acclimated wise. Super Bowls need to be played in a neutral venue (i.e. a warm weather city such as in Miami or in a dome such as in New Orleans) to ensure a level playing field. While I don't think the weather is that bad today being in the 30's, I could see a nightmare scenario where there is the possibility for a blizzard that would be a logistical nightmare. Also for everyone saying the people can just come on through Holland Tunnel to Manhattan, Manhattan isn't exactly the cheapest place in the world. To be able to enjoy a stereotypical Manhattan lifestyle or vacation, you need to have DEEP pockets (I'm talking hedge fund manager, rock star, sports star, supermodel, movie star, partner at a huge law firm type of money). However, Brooklyn and Queens are just a quick subway ride away for fun that is affordable, but I don't know if people will travel there due to the remaining stereotype that those are 'dangerous' boroughs -- which by the way, isn't true at all. It's not 1970 anymore; NYC is the safest big city in the United States. But back to the game, the best I think we can hope for is a game in the mid 30's with a wind chill of maybe 25. That would probably be the optimal condition for this time of the year. Either way, let's all hope the Saints are in it and that they come out on top as a big screw you to Goodell and his cronies in their backyard.
