If we don’t get a wide receiver by round 2… (1 Viewer)

You got all semantic so I just had to 🤭

Seeing as we have a 2nd and could pick a WR in the 2nd my statement holds true. Semantically speaking. 🤭

But given the context, it was not the right word to choose. "In" remains the more accurate choice, semantically speaking. I do appreciate that this meant enough to you that you looked it up and attempted to learn, however.

No I meant 1st or 2nd round. So “By” applies. Attempt to learn lol. I know what it means you don’t.

He was the only healthy WR. Someone had to catch the ball.

He also regressed this year. Can't blame the coach when the WR can't catch.
Yes you can. You get them on the field and they practice. You game plan for them. You don’t set them aside because they aren’t the guys you drafted. DA played the guys he drafted or brought in, except for AK41 and Hill. And he didn’t even use them right until it was too late. Stop ragging the players so much when the HC is mainly at fault. If the previous HC can get the guys to walk through walls and the next can’t, it’s usually on the coach.

You're asking why DA, a defensive coach, couldn't get the best out of a UDFA WR? Isn't that just like asking why Payton couldn't get the most out of Stephone Anthony?
No. Payton relied on his defensive coordinator to do that. DA was trying to run a ground chuck offense that he didn’t have the backs for. MI was too old and beat up. AK41 isn’t built to run up the gut 30 times a game. There was no featured brutal RB to run that style of offense. He should have stuck with Payton’s offense. The pieces were there. He was hard headed.

That last play was just dumb. Why pitch the ball back? You got two yards. Stack the line line the Eagles did and QB sneak. Give yourself a chance.

The top wide receivers are all gone by pick 40 in round 3. We have precisely 2 capable wide receivers on the roster. We need at least 4. And they are expensive. This is why I have wide receiver as our number one need outside of QB. Even IF (big if) we can sign a capable free agent we will need to add two more guys. I might pull all my hair out if we go into another season with TQS, Kevin White and Calloway.

We brought in Landry last year but he’s pretty much done. I don’t think he has the ambition to last a full season. Especially not at $3 million a year.

There’s maybe 2-4 first round wide receivers and then there’s a second tier group that is pretty big. This group is going to go fast.

Then a third tier group where the drop off is pretty steep and not worth a third round pick IMO.

First tier:

Quentin Johnston lock
Jordan Addison lock
Jaxon Smith-Njigba maybe 2nd tier depending on the team
Kayshon Boutte maybe

2nd tier: all locks these guys can make an impact Year one
Josh Downs
Rashee Rice
Cedric Tillman
Jalin Hyatt
Marvin Mims
Zaye Flowers

There’s going to be a run on wide receivers in the second round into beginning of the third. I want to get a defensive tackle but if we do then we are not getting a wide receiver in the third or we have to reach for a third tier guy. And a lot of guys are going to be over valued for this reason.

Third tier:

Xavier Hutchinson
Trey Palmer (Nebraska 😱)
Dontayvion Wicks
AT Perry (Wake Forest 😱)
Andrei Iosivas (potential Senior Bowl riser from Princeton)

I would not pick any of these guys in the 3rd round and wouldn’t expect them to make an impact year one. Iosivas is actually my favorite of this group but I would hope to get him in the 5th round, and not upset about a 4th round pick.

Our offense stunk last year! We need to add weapons and if they don’t draft a receiver early then they’re really saying how they’re okay to stink into the future. It’s the new norm in the NFL to have to draft many receivers early. We got SUPER lucky with Shaheed. If he decided to go somewhere else then we’d be in even worse shape. I’m really glad that he didn’t settle for just being a return specialist. That’s at least one thing this coaching staff got right.

Now we need to push for more receivers.
My Lord …

Nope

You want to keep ragging Calloway because you don’t like him. But you keep giving DA passes. Why?
I don’t dislike Callaway. I just don’t think he’s a very good football player. 5th WR type is his ceiling. He’s definitely not a barometer by which you measure a coach’s ability to coach someone up. With a HOF level coach, Callaway was a shade better than mediocre in one season.

Because he wasn’t coached up. You have to coach all of your young talent. DA didn’t emphasize that with the guys he didn’t bring in. You saw it with AK41, Hill, and others.

I wouldn't consider Huchinson a third tier. Guy caught 107 passes last year, great hands just not a deep threat. And his quarterback before this past year was.........

Here’s another late round guy that I like. Jake Bobo out of UCLA
He’s tall and runs great routes. Day 3 guy or UDFA. He’s not on anyone’s radar ATM
