If we end up 13 - 3 (1 Viewer)

Thanks to Broad St. Saint

If we have the same record as the Falcons, the ONLY way we win the division is if we have a better division record. All opponents the Saints and Falcons have left are common opponents. There is no way we can win that tie breaker with the same record. Which makes the Conference tie breaker null and void.

So either we need to have a better overall record than Atlanta, or we need Atlanta to lose one more NFC south game than we do with the same overall record. Either way, Atlanta needs to lose twice.

The only way for us to win the division is for Atlanta to lose one more game than we do, or for them to lose to one more NFC opponent than we do if we have the same record. Either way, we need Atlanta to lose to us and anyone else.

This is almost correct. Atlanta has to lose more than one game than the Saints do, or lose to one more NFC South opponent than the Saints do if they have the same record.

Common games comes before conference games in division tiebreaking. But Division games comes right after head to head.

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION
If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs
Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

In other words, the Saints could lose to Cincinnati or Baltimore, but if the Falcons lose to Tampa next week, and the Saints later, Saints can still win the division if both teams finish tied.

BIG Tampa fans next week.

The chance of us winning 5 more in a row, to total 9 in a row and the falcons winning 9 in a row total to face us in that situation, allthough possible, would defy all adds of rational probability in a league where the average winning margin is around 3 points

Thanks for the clarification. But the end result is the same. The Falcons Have to lose at least two more games than we do over the next 5.
