...because we lose Ivory and trade or cut Thomas...who's out there? Christine Michael and who else? Who's the Alfred Morris of 2013?

Some people may be happy for us to go with just Ingram, Sproles, Cadet and an UDFA, speak out if you do.

Well, first we better not cut Thomas....he is the best overall back we have in the stable.

Well I worded like that because some people don't believe we can trade the guy so I'm just heading them off at the pass so to speak...

Le'veon Bell or nothing. I think we're good going with an UDFA if we do lose Ivory. There's not much value in RB's through the draft anymore. Look at our roster, 3 of out 5 RB 's are UDFA's. We o my have 5 picks to begin with, it'd be horrible if we wasted one on a RB.

One reason I started this thread is I know the Saints interviewed Christine Michael. Unless it was just an exercise, there must be some interest.

Just to clarify, I don't want us to draft any running backs, this is just hypothetical. I could have just started a thread titled "are there any good running backs in the draft" but I'd probably end up having to explain that too! :hihi:

- who out of these 3 running backs can block for Brees? that would be my concern...

- I would let Cadet go before Thomas. Thomas is solid and proven!

I agree I think Thomas is the most complete back we have.

Stefphon Jefferson*, RB, Nevada
Height: 5-11. Weight: 210.
Projected 40 Time: 4.53.
Projected Round (2013): 4-6.
2/16/13: Jefferson could be this year's Alfred Morris; a sleeper running back who surprises everyone in the NFL. Jefferson has quickness to go along with power and size. He finished second in the FBS in rushing this year with 1,883 yards (5.0 average) with 24 touchdowns. Jefferson also caught 22 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown.

Jefferson has fresh legs after serving as a backup in 2011 and 2010. He is high-character individual who will be a good teammate and locker-room presence.

This guy?

If we lose either of these guys, however unlikely, I still think we look towards UDFA. We'll get more value out of a UDFA RB than choosing one in the draft and missing out on a higher valued position pick.

As for the best potential candidate to replace Ivory, you could go in this direction.

Thomas is the most trustworthy back we have, and he doesn't have a whole lot of "wear" on his body since they basically gave him the year off last season.

This team does a great job of finding RBs either late or in UDFA... if we lose one of our backs we'll find another with no problem. I'm not sure we'll carry 4 on the active roster this year though.

Good info guys I haven't looked at running backs in the draft much. :9:

Another guy to keep an eye on....

Le'Veon Bell is projected to go in the 4th. I don't think we get rid of Thomas however because we don't need to overcrowd the backfield again. We have lots of talent there already and limited picks this year. UDFA's will likely be the route we take for running backs.
