Mods, please excuse the kinda-sorta ambiguous thread title and please don't merge me. It ain't what you think. :)

Well, it is kinda what you think. It's stupid. I'll admit that right out. But it's gonna be pretty cool when I get to say "I CALLED IT!!!!"

Talking about Zach Strief. Hear me out.....

I was rewatching the Giants game this morning and I noticed that the Saints lined up in a Jumbo with Zach Strief checking in as an eligible receiver.

This got me wondering if they had done this before at some point during the season, because if they did I don't remember it, so I started Googling around to see if I could find out. No luck, but now it's got me thinking.....

about Mike Vrabel. Hmmmmmm.....

This is from Strief's bio at Northwestern U's site:

Q: My ultimate SportsCenter highlight would be...
A: Catching a touchdown pass

Strief played defense and lettered twice in track in high school. His 40 time is 5.41 and he's 6'7" (by comparison, the top senior TE coming out, Minnesota's Matt Spaeth, is 6'7" 265 and runs a 4.85)

Now I'm not saying the dude is a TE. And I've already admitted that this post is stupid. :D

But remind me..... who is our head coach and offensive playcaller, again?

Would you put it past him?

I'm predicting that some time during the playoffs, Strief gets a chance at a TD on a goal-to-go inside the 5 out of the Jumbo. And I bet it works too.

Ssssssssshhhhhhhh. Don't tell anybody. I'd be interested to know whether or not this has ever been run in practice. Wouldn't be surprised to hear that it has.

Phew I thought you were about to dredge up the Hilton is better than Shannon Sharpe threads

I'm pretty sure that Strief came in against the Cowboys near the goalline but got called for a false start penalty. That was the only previous time I can recall that package.
As you mention, it'll be interesting to keep an eye on whether they double bluff and try and throw something his way at some point.

if this thread goes over five replies i'm deleating it in the interest of the team

regards,
S.Payton

It has been done before in the league and if Payton thinks it will work, well, then he will try it.

It wouldn't exactly be that suprising. A ton of teams have similiar plays in their playbook. The most famous instance is in the miracle Jets MNF comeback vs the Dolphins. Testevarde passed it to OT Jumbo Elliot to tie the game 37-37 and force overtime.

Don't put any possibility past Sean Payton. Anything is possible, except, of course, Mike Karney scoring three touchdowns in one game. That would never happen. :hihi:

Strief didn't report eligible and drew a flag, if I recall correctly.

But he did it all good and proper against the Giants at least twice, and maybe it was three times.

Maybe he'll catch a pass against Carolina, which would be sweet because the Panthers keep trying (without success, I think) to throw a TD pass to Julius Peppers in similar cicumstances.

Not out of the question. T.O. came in at DB in Philly game. Of course, he was in to catch a Garcia hail mary (that didn't happen).

Yeah but T.O. has to learn to catch passes from his own QB first I would think.

Ouch! :_rofl:
