Impact of Benson’s death on the Saints (2 Viewers)

My thoughts.

I have no doubt that the gold digging, power-hungry Rita Benson-Leblanc will come looking for both money and control. I think she will contest the living trust. This will take years to settle. They will hope to wear Gayle down in an all-out assault to regain control of both franchises.
On what grounds? They played their hand and lost. Once Tom was found competent, and the Texas trust was transferred to Rene, any legitimate claim to the sports franchises was lost. It's over for them.

In some instances, that doesn’t prevent people from filing further legal action. It happens all the time. It’s a waste of time and money and only the attorneys have anything to gain from it. Also, I highly doubt there isn’t some kind of appeal pending on those rulings.

There were no appeals. And there was a 60 day window in which to contest any facets of the settlement, which has long passed.

The case is fully settled,” Phillip Wittmann, Tom Benson’s New Orleans lawyer, said in an interview Friday. “Mr. Benson is pleased with the outcome of the settlement and that this is last of the legal cases with his heirs.”

A VERY credible source tells me the Mannings are buying the team.

This also isn’t joe and Jane arguing over a house. Bensons lawyers took care of it I have no doubt. Tom was mad enough to write Renee out. Think he would’ve left a door cracked

You

I think we are in a world of trouble.

No matter how honorable a woman Mrs. Gayle might be (i’ve never met her)— the going rate for an NFL franchise is $1.5- 2 billion and i dont know many ppl who would turn that down if someone in another city offered it to move the team.

You are talking from the perspective of someone who doesn’t have a lot of money. Trust me people with money don’t think the way we do. She is not going to be impressed with an offer for the team. The revenue stream from the two teams along will be more money then she could spend in a lifetime

But there were appeals, and I answered prior to your edit
There were no appeals after the final ruling about his competency, and there were none once the final ruling was issued. My point was that there are no outstanding appeals as you alluded to, and that there is no legal framework currently for there to be a new one. It's a settled matter.

There are legal battles over settlements all the time. My point is if someone has the money, they can keep a legal battle over anything alive for longer than what they should be able to.

Early rumblings out of New Orleans is Gayle Benson likely to sell Pelicans in next year or so to pay for taxes on Saints

I hope this isn't true

You mean besides the current owners of the other teams, who almost certainly have received unsolicited offers on a fairly regular basis?

For many who have the means, particularly those who are older, the gratification comes more from having what the money can bring rather than having the actual pile of money.

The moot court notwithstanding, the immediate impact to the team is mostly emotional. The franchise has been running on its own for years now (meaning Loomis, Lauscha running it) and that is not going to change this year or next.

What Gayle Benson will choose to do with the team in the future, that's everyone's guess.
The only thing I'd look to, is the estate tax situation.

Quick edit for those who think the $1.5 billion tag is to tempting to not sell the team: you need to think like rich people. To her, those $1.5 billion are in her pocket already, she doesn't need to stash the cash in her mattress, not will she think of going on a rampage with the cash and buy herself a Lamborghini and a house in Paris (probably she already has the house in Paris).

That'd make it seem that she intends to keep the Saints then.
