One of the things that has bothered me over the last eight years has been the strain of entrenched and unyielding opposition many have voiced against Obama.

I hope this is something the Trump administration will take seriously as a priority and be successful in getting through.

Bannon: With negative interest rates around world, ‘rebuild everything’

“The conservatives are going to go crazy. I’m the guy pushing a trillion-dollar infrastructure plan. With negative interest rates throughout the world, it’s the greatest opportunity to rebuild everything. Ship yards, iron works, get them all jacked up. We’re just going to throw it up against the wall and see if it sticks.”

I'm definitely fine with major spending on roads, bridges, electrical, drainage, flood protection..

Maybe on government grants for certain manufacturers, but a bit less warm to that idea.

Definitely on electrical grid improvements. (ha, said it twice!)

Obama has tried to improve our infrastructure only to be met with furious opposition from congress.

Yup and when they let Trump do it (and they will) they'll show how big of hypocrites they are.

Yes. That was included in the opposition I was referring to.

Just think how much greater the recovery would have been if only Congress would have approved infrastructure upgrades in the last 8 years...

While we're at it, let's raise the gasoline tax and kill off CAFE regulations. Gas taxes can fund a helluva lot of infrastructure improvements. A large enough increase can even help clean the air more through increased road capacity and encouraging people to buy more fuel efficient vehicles. We are seeing huge growth in large SUV/Crossovers and pickup sales because of low gas prices. We're also seeing a huge hit on small vehicle sales. CAFE regulations aren't having an effect on buying habits.

Phase in those increases over time and make the infrastructure improvements we need. Trump knows about building and investing. He can easily sell the public on both if he chooses to support it.

But, but, but what about all those shovel ready projects Obama promised us?

What about them? They kept me and hundreds of other people at my firm employed when the private sector was afraid to build anything 2009-10. Then the Republicans got congress and put an end to them.

Some of you guys are nuts. They DID pass a trillion dollar stimulus plan for infrastructure in 2008. It was wasted, only to run up the deficit. That is what happens with government spending.

Bannon is someone I don't know quite what to make of. He presided over a website with some truly horrific articles pushing some really ugly ideas. A website that purports to be a news site, but is really only opinion, and hateful blogging. But he does appear to have been exactly right about Trump and exactly right about the election.

I read an article where he seems to relish comparing himself to Cromwell. And where he says that he will drive conservatives just as crazy as he drives liberals. I read a different article where the author says Bannon called himself a "Leninist", and said he wanted to destroy the Establishment. He seems to hold both conservatives and liberals in disdain, but feels he can work with (use?) the conservatives to get what he wants.

I'm still wary. Why would a man preside over a website that glorifies misogyny and White nationalism if he didn't at least harbor those tendencies? Is his populism only meant for straight, white men? Where does that leave the rest of us?

Just what my parents and most decent parents have told their kids; you are who you hang around with. Trump has some real gems hanging around and supporting him. That is all I have to say on this subject.
