In case anyone is unaware of this (3 Viewers)

It is Allen's record.

I wont defend or bash either. But i do find it interesting that Derek Carr has accumulated 4 Pro Bowls, 3757 Passing Yards (28th all-time; 6th among active), 227 Passing TDs (36th All-time; 6th among active), 64.6% pass completions (19thy All-time; 12th active)

I can see why we offered him QB13 money, if you factor in that roughly 12 QBs are still on rookie money. We really paid him bottom of the league money. Why are we surprised that we got what we paid for?
the biggest mystery is : does Carr get nervous and freeze up in the red zone? Like a mental flaw similar to training a puppy not to cross a boundary that is three inches high and as a full grown dog still will not cross that same boundary. In his defense, we all know that bend and don't break defenses are a real thing. (We ran one and won the Super bowl with one) In his opposition, we didn't have a red zone problem in the past, and the only thing that changed was that he was added to the team. Outside of team stats, do we have evidence that proves or disproves this? Like a more than normal incompletion rate throwing to open receivers. Or simply not seeing wide open receivers? Or feeling pocet pressure when there was none? I think if this question could be answered then we'd have a better understanding. If he does have a mental issue, then we know that old dogs cant be taught new tricks.

He was 11th in the league in redzone completions (47) and 15th in redzone TDs (18) in 2021.

I don't know exactly what his issue is this year, but he's only completed 21 redzone passes and 8 redzone TDs so far and it isn't likely to get much better with all of the injuries.

Not facepalming your post, but rather the truth of your post. Given our injuries things aren’t likely to improve. SMDH…

yes it simply doesnt make sense to be one of the league leaders in passing yards, only to crumble in the red zone. So, this is a Pete problem clearly. Because if it was a talent problem, then he wouldnt have high passing yard numbers at all. Sneaky Pete or possibly DA not going for it on 4th down. Theres no way Sean kicks 5 FGS in the redzone without going for it 3 times on 4th.

In his last 5 years before coming here he was 21st, 15th, 18th, 23rd and 32nd in red zone passer rating.

He was dead last in RZ passer rating in 2022 and obviously has been comically bad this year.

I think 2021 was a (positive) outlier for Carr in the redzone.

I don't know what among 33 qualifiers means, but he was 20th in completions and 20th in TDs while playing 2 less games than many of the others above him. Not good at all, but I have to point out how much of a mess that team was under Josh McDaniels. It's like judging the 2023 Saints player under DA.

It means passers with enough attempts to qualify for season-long league stats (omits spot starters or random halfback passes, etc.)

Anyway, I guess it depends on which metric you use, but at least using passer rating, he's always been bottom half of the league in the red zone (aside from his rookie year lol). Pete obviously isn't making anything better but when it comes to the RZ, we're trying to make chicken salad out of chicken ---.

27 part twitter thread on his struggles inside the 10 - its a thing.

Inside the 10 and redzone (inside the 20) are two different things. I was looking inside the 20, so that is where there might be some discrepancy with what we are coming up with. Regardless, many of his seasons have been in the mid tier (10-20) even by those stats. That is pretty much what we paid for. I think we could have had similar productions for less, but probably not in this offense.

I really don't see the issue with having Carr take a seat and giving the keys to Taysom once they reach the redzone. Play to the team's strengths.
Hey a two QB system can work. It has worked in the past and lead to a NFL Championship Title.

I say do it.
