I'm traveling to Orlando, and the timing/serpentine belt on my 2001 Isuzu Trooper came off. I am stuck in a Holiday Inn express, (no, I don't feel smarter) in Florence, South Carolina. I cannot find a schematic or diagram for the routing of the belt, or the tensioner. Anyone who can find it, or offer some advice from experience, pleeeeease do so. Thanks in advance.

This belt should be changed when medium to large cracks are visible in the grooves of the belt (if you can see the white threads change it soon). Most belts last about 30-45K. The OEM belt costs about 17 bucks from St. Charles and it took me and my father about 5 minutes to replace. The easiest way to relieve tension from the belt tensor is to place a 1-2 foot pipe on the end of your socket wrench (this will give you more torque).

Is the factory sticker gone? There is usually one on the radiator support, under the hood, or somewhere in the engine compartment.

Yeah. Nothing anywhere. Greatest thing about it is I just had the belt replaced this past Tuesday.

I had something similar happen in my Jeep. Turned out to be my AC compressor (?) locking up. I was in Hollywood at the time, so 1500 +/- miles from home, on a Sunday no less - with the Jeep dealer closed. What saved me is that there was a belt at Pep Boys for a Jeep without AC, so we were able to bypass the AC system and get back on the road. That may be an option for you if the root of the problem is the same and you're trying to save time.

It would be wise to buy an extra belt. If the last one only lasted a week, either you have a pulley dragging or the belt was defective(unlikely) or like Sabine said one of the pulleys completely locked up. Good luck.

Its also possible your tensioner is bad or wasnt doing its job. Do you still have the belt that came off? If so take a good look at it? Any glazing or burned spots on it? Also Ive heard that some belts are directional. Its not beyond the realm of possibility that whomever changed it put it on wrong.
