Last week when handicapped women were used as suicide bombers in Baghdad to blow up a pet market, my wife was at a loss.

"Why would they want to blow up a pet market?" she asked.

Well, the website Ask The Imam has the answer!

The keeping of dogs as pets is a Western cultural idea which is not in keeping with Islamic law. The idea that "the dog is man's best friend" is an unnatural behavior which is part of Western culture.

Moreover, the imam says dogs kept for anything other than personal security or farming purposes are unclean. Dog saliva is especially unclean and there's a whole cleansing ritual involved before a devout Muslim can pray again, once he's been contaminated by dog spit.

Which brings us to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's four German guard dogs, purchased at a cost of over $161,000.

Ayatollas all over Iran are now taking up sides either for or against Ahmadinejad's dogs.

Iran's FARS News Agency has taken up the cause for the guard dogs, noting that they were given a special "fatwah" by several ayatollahs, because they were to be used strictly for presidential security, not as pets.

I'm all for cultural and religious tolerance, but for the life of me, the more I learn about strict adherence to Islam, the less likely it seems to me that its followers could ever fit in here in America. You have to get a ruling from a group ayatollahs to even get a dog? I thought "special dispensation" went out with the Middle Ages.

Yeah, next thing you know they will do something like forbid people to eat meat on Fridays for 40 days or tell them they have to sacrifice something for those 40 days.:hihi:

Honestly, from a third person perspective, all religions have what would be considered odd practices by non-believers. That being said, radical Islam certainly takes it to a level not see in Christianity since the "Dark Ages."

I can tell all I need to know about someone if they don't like dogs. Religions included.

But, dogs got personality, personality goes a long way.

I think I'm more at a loss by the fact that they are now using unwilling mentally challenged people as suicide bombers than targeting a pet market.

So by your logic, if a pig had a better personality it would cease to be a filthy animal?

Pigs actually aren't filthy animals. We throw them in that slop to keep them cool. When treated like most people treat dogs, they are neater and smarter than most dogs. My dad had one in college and said it was the best pet he ever had, and we've had dogs my whole life.

I have three dogs and I dont know the cleansing ritual.

*tear*

you guys managed to find the exact two quotes from that movie that don't violate the TOS.
