After three "positive" tests on Saints players turning out to be false positives, it begs the question -- who will be the first star player to miss a game due to a false positive? I'd assume there will be different protocols in place in the two days leading up to the games to prevent that, but it seems inevitable. QB's would obviously have the biggest impact on those game results. Thank goodness we have possibly the deepest roster we've ever had in a season where our starting lineup will be battling far more than injuries.

So what's the over/under on total missed games due to false positives this season?

Have we been told that the players who've been on and off the list are actually false positive tests or is that an assumption?

I ask because it seems like the rules are set up in a way that someone like Payton could use them to his advantage if he chose to.

Matt Stafford for sure. Some, you can use deductive reasoning. If you have the virus, you’re not going on the list one day and getting off the next. If you came in contact with someone who had it, depending on the time frame, you’ll likely need to be on it for several days, receiving multiple negative tests. We can get an idea who most likely falls Into which category. But, no. We won’t know fir most of these guys.

So far so good with this system it seems, too.

Anyway, from what i recall of the little bit I read, it seemed like it was custom made for Payton to stash players on like a covid practice squad.

These guys are all adults who had the option to sit out if they wanted for this virus and chose not to. I say let them play. Same for college, they’re adults and a lot of them want to play. They know the consequences coming up through high school, any play could be your last. What makes this virus any worse than paralysis, TBI, injuries like Alex Smith and Tua suffered?

That isn't what it's being made out to be by some articles. You are only protected from Tuesday evening till your next game each game week. (If I'm correct that you are referencing the protected players on practice squads).

Wait are you talking about the COVID exemption list?*
Those aren’t false positives, you’re put on the list if there’s any reason to suspect you should be quarantined. Contact tracing and such. Teams can’t disclose if a player tested positive or not.
I understand the underlying point of what you’re saying doesn’t change much, but the way you phrase it insinuates there are a high amount of false positives.

*Edit: Honest question btw, I haven’t been paying as much attention as normal

No worries -- I think we're all in the dark here lol. I've seen the term "false positive" mentioned several times and I believe concerning our own players as well. It stuck in my mind because it seemed odd, but perhaps reporters are throwing around terms that aren't completely accurate. That wouldn't be a surprise either I suppose.

False positives really dont happen, false negatives do. I think the NFL is trying to manipulate the truth a bit. Goodell lying?, Can't imagine......
