Either we are just incredibly unlucky relative to other teams at this particular position, or there is something in the way the Saints play defense that leaves CBs particularly vulnerable to injury over the years?
Greer - missed a bunch of time in 09, missed 2 games each in two other seasons, only ever once played 16 games in a season while with the Saints, career ending broken leg when he was still performing at a pretty high level.
Porter - constantly injured, concussions and leg stuff. Hurt his rookie season, played 4 seasons for the Saints, 5, 12, 12 and 14 game played.
Gay - career ended prematurely by head injuries
Robinson - somebody else on another thread mentioned this, he looked very good going into the 2013 season. I agree, at the time I thought he was our #1 CB. Broke his leg, never came back the same.
Lewis - Don't really need to elaborate here I don't think. All leg/knee and groin stuff.
Breaux - Great rookie season, broken leg
PJ Williams - was looking great, until he got hurt.
I may be missing 1 or 2.
Prevailing notion is that we are continually weak in the secondary, but that's an awful long list of pretty good players that we've had over the years that have been unavailable because of injury. So I guess the question is, is there something inherent to what the Saints do with this particular position, styles of coverage, practice routines etc that begin to account for it. Or are we just incredibly unlucky?
