So, the thread on the greatest Saints player to wear a particular number might not get as far seeing as though we did not have a lot of great players. So, I thought of something else that should provoke more discussion. I would like to discuss interesting moments in Saints history. Sort of like, "Do you remember when...such and such happened."

Saints history is full of interesting moments. And sometimes, even with an eidetic memory, I am still amazed at the minutiae of things I can remember. The inspiration for this thread, in fact, came from me talking about a TD run Derek Brown had in a game against the Packers where he reversed fields. Sometimes, I just think about different things that happened or were said over the years, like when Fred McAfee joined our team as a rookie and the announcers kept saying "he is faster than hiccup." Or when Mario Bates got his jaw broken by Lorenzo Neal. I can still remember a game against the Packers where Bates ran 12 times for 95 yards. Everyone, including me, thought he was going to be a beast. Never worked out, probably because of his attitude.

I think you all get the point. There are just certain things that stand out in your memory. So my first, "Do you remembers" are:

Do you remember when Wade Wilson got hurt in the game against the Giants on Monday Night and Saints fans cheered because they wanted Mike Buck to replace him? Jim Mora was not happy and called it horrible and the most disgusting thing he had ever seen. The interesting thing is that Buck and Wilson completed the same amount of passes (11) for the same amount of yards (148) so Buck didn't do us any favors. By the way, we lost the game 24-14.

Do you remember when Jim Haslett told Curtis Keaton that we were going to sign him if the Bengals cut him during a preseason game? The Bengals let him go and Haslett kept his word.

Do you remember when the Saints traded for Allen Pinkett from the Houston Oilers? If I remember correctly, we gave up a fifth rounder for him (seemed like a good trade), then drafted Vaughn Dunbar in the first round. Two picks on backs, but we were a run-first team back then. Well, Pinkett goes out on the first day of training camp and gets hurt. He never played a down for us. As for Dunbar, he ran for 565 yards that season--same amount Reggie Bush had his first year. The weird thing is Bush had only one more carry than Dunbar. The interesting thing about Dunbar was people felt like he was Emmitt Smith and he even bought into the hype by wearing a tuxedo with tails to the NFL draft.

Ok, that is enough for now. What do you remember?

Not one but 2 Billy Joes.

And we are thew only team that had an astronaut for a coach.

I remember the River City Relay and how elated I felt. I also remember Carney's missed extra point and how crestfallen I felt.

When Turley threw homie's helmet, I just saw our hopes dashed upon the rocks.

I remember seeing Ironhead Hayward knock a Falcons safety clean into the next county on a swing pass. I thought we'd never fail on 3rd-and-short again.

I remember watching the Saints play the 49ers in the dome and at halftime they had a fireworks show and it lit a burlap sack that was up in the rafters on fire, it fell to the turf and people scrambled to put out the fire...including the gatorade bucket, which if memory serves I believe the guy missed...dropped the bucket just before the fire.

I remember when Deuce McAllister carried Keion Carpenter on his back for a touchdown!

That was the game Fred McAfee made his debut.

I remember the Giants game where Phil Simms was injured and an unknown backup named Jeff Hostetler was the Giants QB for the first time. It appeared the Saints would beat the Giants but Lawrence Taylor KILLED the Saints offense with his shoulder strapped down outside his jersey. He harassed the Saints and willed his team to beat us.

Below is an excerpt from LTs wiki page discussing that game.

The 1988 season also contained some of the more memorable moments of Taylor's career. In a crucial late-season game with playoff implications against the New Orleans Saints, Taylor played through a torn pectoral muscle to record seven tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Taylor#cite_note-hof-27Taylor's presence in the lineup was important as the Giants' offense was having trouble mounting drives, and was dominated in time of possession. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Taylor#cite_note-box-63Television cameras repeatedly cut to the sidelines to show him in extreme physical pain as he was being attended to by the Giants staff. Taylor had already developed a reputation for playing through pain.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Taylor#cite_note-64 Taylor's shoulder was so injured that he had to wear a harness to keep it in its place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Taylor#cite_note-hof-27The Giants held on for a 13–12 win, and Parcells later called Taylor's performance "the greatest game I ever saw."

I remember playing the Falcons in I believe 1991, Steve Walsh faked an injury to his hand, Mike Buck came in for one play, ran a flea flicker and threw a TD pass to Floyd Turner or it may have been a long pass, can't remember completely. Although we ended up losing the game.

****checked on it, it was a 61 yard bomb, but still cool play non the less

You are right! It was a 69 yard touchdown!

Edit: You are right Frank, it was 61 yards.

I hate to bring this up but do you remember Willie "Flipper" Anderson's 336 yard-receiving game against us? Or how about Jerome Bettis running for 212 yards? The pre-Payton days were just as the bounty season.
