Is anybody buying J. Duncan's book? (1 Viewer)

What's it called, "How I bash the Saints to pander to the national media in hopes of getting a big time job at ESPN or Sports Illustrated"?

Agreed. JD rubbed me the wrong way too many times. If this book came out in May, I would have it already. Now that I have read his stuff since then (or maybe it was even before then, but I swear I never noticed this new 'tone' he has), **** him. I wouldn't buy this book in the $1.99 bargain bin. BOYCOTT!

The idea that a national writer or broadcaster doesn’t share the same level of rabid allegiance to the Saints that we do does not mean that they hate our team. It does not mean that they are idiots or morons. It does not mean that they are biased against New Orleans.

Maybe you need to change that one to local. Looks like even the Saints beat writer has to sign his Saints loyalty oath.

I am no Saints pollyanna, but this guy is on his way to being the next Kenny 'Fernando Evans (You can't cover 'em!)' Winkerbean. There is a large axe being ground, but I have no idea why. Maybe Sean Payton ****** in his cornflakes one morning.

Agree to disagree.

You've been here for a while. I'd love to hear your reasoning because honestly I'm miffed. Maybe I'm missing something because I don't remember reading an article from Duncan that was so far off base it made my blood boil. Just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he's a bad at his job.

Some of you guys are just delusional. Jeff Duncan's employed by the Times Picayune, not the Saints. His job is to cover the team in an unbiased light, not churn out fluff pieces for NewOrleansSaints.com. Regardless of that, the guy "gets" it as far as the Saints and New Orleans goes in general. I've read him long enough to know that. Duncan is on point more than a majority of a time and I'm not sure where all the hate is coming from...the guy is good at what he does.
Agree 100%. Duncan is a journalist. He's expected to be unbiased and not a homer. Jim Henderson has had said some negative things about the Saints over the years, but I don't hear anybody wanting to crucify him. If all Duncan did was feed us the cheese, he wouldn't be doing his job.

I bought his previous book Tales from the Saints Sidelines and enjoyed it.

I'm sure I'll buy this one eventually too.

Agreed. That was a very good book. Now I do all my reading as ebooks, so I'll wait a bit and see if this comes out that way before I buy. But I will buy the book. Jeff is a good author, IMHO, and this should be a good addition to my collection of Saints reading material.

Isn't Duncan literally on SR?

Well, it is a public website afterall. What's the big deal?

I personally like Jeff because I think he does a lot of work to provide as much information as humanly possible given the tight lipped non media friendly regime that we have of a coaching staff and front office.

I would love to have his job on many days -- being a real Saints fan and I respect him for not 'faking' to be a Saints fan like some other beat reporters are. Eventually he wont be with the T.P. and he'll still be true to who he is.

Now, as for those 4 minute drill vlogs. :jpshakehead:.... Those I think he could do without :).

Jeff Duncan is paid to be a journalist, not a Saints PR specialist.

I am very impressed with his columns. He is very articulate and provides a very balanced view on the Saints. I particularly enjoy his breakdown of film and insight into the Saints game plans.

I am going to buy the book as a way to show him some loyalty and support for his coverage of the Saints. I live in the 4th largest city in the US and there isn't a beat writer for the local paper that is nearly as talented as Duncan.

AMEN. Duncan is a solid saints columnist. he knows his stuff and calls things the way he sees it. i live in NYC and there isn't a giants or jets beat reporter as good as jeff.

some people just aren't happy unless they can ***** & moan.
